Venice Beach or Santa Monica? :)? -

Hi there! Sometime at the end of January 2010, my boyfriend and I are planning to take a trip to California. However, we don t know whether to choose between Venice Beach or Santa Monica? What is a better vacation spot ? What is more funner ? We like to shop, we like to play games, we like the beach. We just want to know the Pros Cons of each, so we can decide. Thanks in advance!

Why are you staying in one area? Santa Monica and Venice are 2 miles apart lol... if you are in L.A. why not explore the entire area?...If you have any questions you can ask and I will try and answer the best I can :)

You don t have to choose, they are right next to each other.

What makes Oregonians have such bad driving skills? -

Just moved to Oregon from California and I ve never had such road rage in my life....it s a bit ridiculous......i mean......how slow must one go on the highway?

Watch out man, they ll blame it on you. I m cracking up because I know exactly how you feel.I can attest to that not in a hurry excuse, but I think it s just a matter of being overcautious in the name of being courteous. We both know, being too courteous is just as dangerous as being a speed freak lunatic on the highway. For example, the other day, a motorist stopped suddenly at the entrance of a driveway to a grocery store parking lot to allow me to cross in front of her car. Meanwhile, about five cars behind her had to slam on the brakes and make dangerous moves into the next lane to avoid rear-ending her. She s patting herself on the back because she s so nice and friendly, stopping for me, the pedestrian, whereas I m yelling at her to get the F** in the parking lot so she doesn t plug up the busy street any longer. If you come from a fast-paced auto-oriented city, you time your existence around people driving with some authority and getting the heck out of your way, not stopping suddenly to yield a right of way that is theirs to begin with. Portlanders don t get this because they pride themselves on being so friendly . So they stop at green lights and at intersections where they don t have stop signs.Drives me crazy too. And no, I ve never been in an accident that was in any way my fault, haters!EDIT: Ooh, yeah, I can attest for Boston too. I ve driven in 3rd world countries, and Boston has been my worst driving experience by far. The only time I seriously questioned turning down the insurance coverage on the rental car!

Gotta love the finger-pointing by the locals. When you are deficient, just blame someone else, especially the foreigners . It s what makes Portland more of a provincial hick town than the cosmopolitan city it claims to be. Report Abuse

Your road rage is a major reason why Oregonians consider Californians to be such bad drivers.Oregonians generally value courtesy and prudent judgment more highly than technical ability and skill. Californians tend to value things the other way around. This leads to interesting and baffling disagreements over which state has the better drivers. If you are a pedestrian or bicyclist in a random city in Oregon, you ll appreciate the Oregon caution quite a bit more. If you actually attempt to cross a street in any Californian megalopolisand especially if you bicycleyou ll especially appreciate Oregon s philosophy.

LOL. Oregonians are very polite and slow people. Those drivers you see are all transplanted from Los Angeles. They are the ones who give people the finger while driving and honk at you and act like animals. Believe me, they are from Los angeles.

This is Oregon, we smoke a lot of weed here and not in much of a hurry. In fact, just wait til you get to a 4 way stop sign go, no you go, no you go Boston is worse, that is why they are called Mass holes

I have lived in both states........and take the Oregon drivers over the ones from CA any day !

**** you....because we can...

What is Fresno, Ca like? -

I m not from California but looking to possibly attend Cal State Fresno next fall. I m wondering what the city is like, and perhaps the school, if you re aware of that as well.Crime doesn t really bother me, but I value cool hangouts/public districts, whether or not the city is bike-friendly, and most importantly, the people who inhabit the place.

Fresno is a pretty big city. Not as big as like LA or San Francisco but pretty big. There s crime in every city. California State University is located in a pretty good area of the city. A lot of the students ride their bikes to campus and around. It s a pretty big campus so it makes sense. I m into the music scene in Fresno so I can tell you a lot about that. There s a lot of smaller venues where bands play. There s a big venue called Save Mart Center right next to CSUF. It pretty much belongs to CSUF. Jay Z just played a show there last weekend and Kiss and Kelly Clarkson are up next. There s a lot of bars and clubs. Starline is a pretty popular club for the artsy people. Tower District is a small place near downtown Fresno. It has a lot of really neat locally owned stores and cafe s. Another hang out spot is Fashion Fair Mall. There s three main malls but Fashion Fair is the most popular. Some stores are Urban Outfitters, Metro Park, American Eagle Outfitters, BCBG Max Azria, Buckle, Guess, Vans, Hollister, Hot Topic, Quicksilver and a ton of other stores. There is also Riverpark. Also a lot of nice restaurants and stores. A really nice place to just hang out but it is on the more expensive side. Also, there s Downtown Fresno. There is a lot of culture there. A lot of really nice thrift stores and art galleries as well. The public transportation is not great but it s alright. It s pretty inexpensive. There s bus stops all around CSUF. There are also apartments all around CSUF. Like I said, it s located in a pretty safe place in Fresno so you can pretty much walk or ride your bike anywhere. There s some cool places near Fresno too. The mountains are just about an hour drive away. The beach is about two hours away. Now about the people:People that live near CSUF are for the most part friendly. People in Fresno are generally friendly and sociable. The bad thing about Fresno is that it gets REALLY hot here. Like, REALLY HOT. That s all I can think of to tell ya about Fresno.

Fresno isn t too bad although you ll find people calling it all kinds of pretty harsh things. The area area around Fresno State is all pretty college student friendly. My favorite area of town are Tower District and Downtown. There is a really great local music scene here with a lot of awesome bands. If you have a myspace I would suggest going to the band section and doing a search for Fresno bands to get an idea of the music we offer. There are some pretty cool bars and clubs as well.People are pretty cool and laid back for the most part. There are a lot of college kids around here with the area surrounding Fresno State being a majority of college students. The weather here as mentioned before, sucks! We can get to 112 in the middle of summer easy, with no cool down at night because we re stuck in a huge valley. Winter gets cold but its really not that bad. No snow in town but the mountains are as close as 45 minutes and they get plenty of snow. We do get a lot of frost on cars, lawns, roofs etc and also we have a lot of fog. Especially when you re in the more rural parts of town. Schools actually have late start days because of fog around here.Mountains aren t too far away and neither is the beach. We are an incredibly diverse city with probably every culture and race imaginable. Also our former Mayor was Alan Autry who played Bubba in In the Heat of the Night. I mention this because that of course is what will swing you over to joining us. Lol.Overall its not a bad place to live as long as you don t mind the heat and the smell of cow manure.

Very hot in the Summer, cold (by California standards in the winter), not a whole lot of culture. Lots of good Mexican food. If you can play large brass band instruments, you can get an almost free ride.

Going to Boston, late January. What type of outerwear should be appropriate to stay warm? -

Im going to Boston for a week, late Jan.Will wool be fine to keep me warm,or Thinsulate,or anything better...I really like the American Eagle wool outerwear stuff, but Im afraid that it looks pretty, but it wont keep me warm. Are there any American Eagle stores in Canada,or similiar stores there?I dont live there, but some of my family live there, and they are visiting me in about a week or so.I live FAR away,in an urban desert, and have never EVER seen snow before(except in one of those artifical snow parks!).PLEASE guide me!Any extra tips will totally be appreciated! Thanks!!!

Wow, these other people are trying to scare you. It might be really cold out but if you re dressed correctly you ll be plenty warm. The best thing to do is to dress in thin layers of clothing and if you get too warm you can always remove something.I wear a layer of silk underwear consisting of socks, long johns, and undershirt. Over that I would wear wool socks with slacks/jeans and a shirt. Over that I might wear a fleece vest. Over the vest I would wear a warm windproof/waterproof jacket, it doesn t have to be too heavy because the layers will keep you plenty warm.Don t forget some waterproof boots/sneakers with a warm hat and also waterproof insulated gloves (mittens are even warmer) with a silk liner. If your coat doesn t have a hood then wear a scarf on windy days. If it is below zero degrees farenheit then also wear a balaclava which covers the face and head:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balaclava_(A snowsuit would also work but they are big and bulky and are more suitable for when you are outside for long periods of time with little physical exertion like when you are ice fishing or snowmobiling.

The temperatures in Boston in late January can range from the low 60s to below zero. The cold can be accompanied often by a biting wind. Obviously bring clothes for such extremes (a hooded coat is recommended instead of a hat, earmuffs and scarf). And bring insulated, waterproof boots!!!

basically, a parka LOL. I suggest a fleece zip up underneath a down feather jacket- you will need gloves, a hat, and some WARM wool socks. Boots that are waterproof and some warm pants.Gooooood luck!P.S. Temps range in jan from -10 degrees to around 27 degrees so be mindful.

If you want to stay warm, wear fleece. Also, layer up your clothes. Wear a hat (you ll be much colder without anything on your head), gloves, scarf, heavy coat, and warm socks. Focus on staying warm as opposed to looking good.

fleece! and LAYER. it will be cold, probably at least a bit below freezing in january. leggings/long underwear might help too.

underware? Forget that get a snow suit.

Urban Desert where it never snows! Sounds like paradise to me. You really don t want to come here in January. New England winters are downright nasty. No fun at all. just very cold, sometime to the point that it hurts. And the snow, is overrated at best. Snow is cold, wet, ugly and makes the roads dangerous to drive on. You could live a full rewarding life without ever seeing that white sh*t, ever. Trust me on this one. Anyway, to answer your question, you will need a heavy winter coat, some sweaters, gloves, boots and a wool hat, perhaps a scarf. Most days, that will be sufficient, however, on the coldest days of the year, no matter how much you bundle up, you will still be cold. My advice, unless it s absolutely necessary, cancel your trip and come back in the summer. American Eagle stores are common in shopping malls in New England. Here is a store locator for American Ehttp://www.ae.com/web/storelocator/defauThe nearest one to Boston is in the Natick Mall, about 20 miles outside the cityhttp://www.ae.com/web/storelocator/store

Best thing to wear would be a car with a good heating system. It is going to be so bleeping cold you can t imagine. Listen to the Jimmy Buffett song Boat Drinks , that was written while he was in Boston in February one year.If you want to go for fashion, wear a long black wool coat (below the knees) w/scarf and a hat (stocking hat). You will also want some warm boots (Uggs). You can wrap the scarf up around your face.If you want to go for warmth, change the coat to a long nylon shell down coat (also below the knees) w/scarf and hat and boots. A hood on the coat with a fur (faux fur works) trim to keep the wind out is good too. You can find these coats at LLBean.com, my wife has one.Under that you will want turtle neck shirt and a sweater.Don t forget mittens or gloves.Be aware that if it s snowing or raining the Ugg style boots are not the best choice as they won t keep your feet dry. The key to staying warm is to keep your head, back of your neck and feet warm and dry.

Cheap Miami hotels and hot night life? -

I m planning a trip to Miami when I graduate for about a week or so. I have about 3 years before that happens. Soooo my questions are, does anyone know of any affordable yet nice hotels in the area. Also, I definately wanna go to Mansion or Opium (night clubs). Are these clubs expensive and are they fun? I heard Dj Ideal spins there a lot and I think he s amazing (own his mixtapes. lol)

The Cheap hotel rates in Miami starts from around $34 now.Cheap hotels in Miami http://hotels.americacheaphotels.com/Cit

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

About clubs check for rviews and for hotel,I searched on this site and got the cheapest, check it out,it also had discount coupon codes for expedia,orbitz,travelocity,priceline,etchttp://freetravel4ever.blogspot.com
