San Francisco vs Chicago? -

which city do u think is more fun, nice, and excitingtoday me and my friend were arguing which city is better and i want 2 know if ppl rather prefer san francisco or chicago

I have lived in the Chicago area and the San Francisco area. I live in the Chicago suburbs now. I hate Chicago and love San Francisco. Chicago is a grimy downtown, surrounded by a grimy city, surrounded by endless tacky suburbs, surrounded by endless cornfields. If you are into outdoor activities like hiking or camping then Chicago has practically nothing. In San Francisco, you are minutes away from wonderful places for any kind of outdoor activity you can imagine. Drive four hours east of San Francisco and you are in the most beautiful mountain scenery you can find anywhere. Drive four hours any direction from Chicago, and you are still in corn fields (if you are not still stuck in traffic). San Francisco itself is a beautiful city, which Chicago definitely is not!

San Francisco!!! San Francisco has Chicago beat in every way possible: attractions, weather, dining, entertainment, shopping, and the beautiful scenery. That is why so many people leave their hearts in San Francisco. Nobody leaves their heart in Chicago.

I ve been to both cities and San Francisco wins! You have beautiful scenery, hills, trolly cars, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, friendlies people in a major city, and you can cover the entire city in a short a trip... Chicago is big, smelly, and basically just has the Sears tower and wind. San Francisco is far more exciting!

San Francisco by far. Too much corruption in Chicago. Right now too much snow there too. It snows in San Francisco like once every 100 years. San Francisco is one of the most diverse cities in the nation. Everyone LOVES San Francisco.

I prefer San Francisco

No jeans at the club in SF? -

Okay so I m going to San Fransisco tomorrow and my friend told me that I couldn t wear jeans or sneakers. I have a pair of black jeans from H M that are pretty nice, they are very black and don t look like denim. Would I be safe in them or are they pretty strict? I would be wearing them with dress shoes and a v-neck if that makes a difference..

Trust me, in San Francisco, anything goes in terms of fashion. Just make sure that you look like you tried to look good, and you intended to look just as you do. Nice jeans, worn nicely, can work so long as you work them. The bay area is pretty flexible.

If the particular club has a no jeans policy, you can be pretty certain they ll enforce it. That said, it depends on the specific club... that information might help a bit. But yeah, as a general rule, a no jeans dress policy means just that and there s no sense in testing it (what s the point? A profound statement against jean discrimination? *boring*) unless you really don t want to go to the club. So, just replace them with slacks and you re good. Why bother going to such a club if you re not gonna really dress up for it? There are a million other clubs where people dress like **** and you d be more than welcome to wear jeans there.

Im gooing to New York City!? -

now im going to New York City for christmas eve till january 1st and im scared to go cause of all the bad stuff they do down there.... wat do i do.... lady gaga and britney spears are going to be there kk pls help..

Is New York City really safe? Probably not.Is any city really safe? Definitely not.New York City is one of the safest cities in the country, if not the world. I am 5 0, 100 lbs, and female, and I ve walked around (uptown -- near Harlem) at night and had no issues. It s really not bad. That being said, don t be dumb. Don t walk around parks at night, don t go places by yourself at night, and don t look conspicuously out of place (for example, looking lost while staring at your iPhone in a run-down neighborhood).Since you re a tourist, just stay in Manhattan. It s very easy to navigate and ALWAYS well lit. Stay out of the other boroughs as they are more complicated and have fewer tourists. Save the wonderful things they have to offer for another trip. Finally, you re going to be in New York during the busiest tourist season. You will be surrounded by others of your kind. There will be people everywhere, and no one is going to try to pull something on you unless you are totally unaware. Make sure you know where your bag/wallet is at all times and you will be 100% fine.BTW, you won t see Lady Gaga and Britney unless you go out to clubs at night, in which case there s a slight chance of seeing some celebs but...unlikely.

My friend, there is nothing to be afaird about. New York City is the safest city in the country, besides, the crime rate here is a lot lower now than it use to be some 20 years ago.Good luck

be carful people form the bronx and brooklyn come to manhattan on the holiday season and rob people dont look at people the wrong way you may get shot, i wouldnt come here very dangerous

bad stuff? hahahahait s actually a pretty safe safe, like all cities it has it s bad parts and nice partswhat is your question?

I want to work in the USA on a travel working visia how do i do it and what type of visa do i need? -

Im from Australia and i have a qualification in working in a bar and have an engineering qualification

You need a sponsor (employer) for a work visa - you can t apply for one on your own.http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.hAustralians do have an advantage and can get an E-3 Work Visa (the immigration support website is a commercial site):http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-3_visahttp://www.usimmigrationsupport.org/visahttp://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2005/s1Check with US companies in Australia and Australian companies with offices in the USA. For example, Hilton and Marriott hire international staff as interns.Australians and New Zealanders also qualify for:http://newzealand.usembassy.gov/swt_faq. Australian citizens can visit the USA for up to 90 days as a tourist, so you could travel for interviews tests if necessary:https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/withouhttp://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visSearch international exchange programs USA and there should be many links to programs that offer temporary and seasonal work in the US. An example is www.ccusa.comDo carefully check any programs you might be interested in as not all of them are a good deal.Another option is to go to school in the USA. Australian citizens can easily get a US student visa and you MAY be able to work on-campus. Having a USA university diploma or certificate will make applying for jobs easier, and going to school in the US will help you decide if you really want to move here:www.collegesintheusa.comIf you decide to go to university in the USA the first step is to identify several schools you might want to attend and make contact with their offices of international students For example:http://global.tulane.edu/oiss/www.oiss.uno.eduGood luck!

Stay your a.s.s in Australia. We don t have enough jobs here in the US as is. All the foreigners are taking all the jobs with their low wage demands

Road trip from chicago to florida avoiding mountains? -

I want to take a road trip from chicago to florida, but I want to avoid the mountains as much as possible. Does anyone know how to do that? I would also like to know how much time it would take if it s possible.

It s definitely, DEFINITELY, a great idea to avoid the moutains this time of year. My sister and I just road tripped from southern WI to Miami and had the misfortune of driving through freezing rain from Atlanta through Nashville and Paducah. The snow-covered roads of IL and WI were almost a relief compared to that stress! That being said I think your best bet is I-65 to I-20 to I-75. We drove straight through to Miami in 23+ hours stopping for gas and food. Hollywood is just north of that so depending on the weather you re probably looking at a similar drive.BTW, if you want to save on gas you should check out this website: http://www.roadtripjournal.com/ for more road trip tips and the chance to win $200 in gas (this would definitely cover the gas bill on your trip).Happy trails!

You probably want to take 65 or 75 depending on where in FL you want to be or whether you want to go through Atlanta or not. 75 might brush the Appalachian mountains in Eastern Tennessee, but it shouldn t be any serious climbing. As far as how long. Again it depends on where in FL you want to go. It s about 15 hours from Chi-town to the Georgia-Florida border. From there though, Florida is actually a pretty huge state in terms of N-S travel. For example, if you re headed to Tallahassee, I d say about 16 hours. If you re going to Miami, it s probably more like 22-23. Check out Google maps for more info. Good luck and enjoy.

If you take I-65 straight south to Birmingham AL you won t see a single mountain worth discussing.Depending on where you are going in FLA you can then head east to Atlanta and then south on I-75 into eastern or central FLA or continue south on I-65 to the panhandle.

Cane spider in hawaii question? -

We are going to Maui in january... I am so afraid to encounter a cane spider.. does anyone know on what side of the island they mostly hang out??? Or anyone that live in Hawaii, how often do you encounter one??? Any info on them will help me out!

Cane Spiders are not poisonous so you don t have to worry about them. We lived there over 6 years and never saw a one and we lived where there used to be sugar cane fields.

I ve lived in Hawaii for the last 10 years and the only time I ever saw one was on a construction project I did in the middle of the sugar cane fields on Maui. Actually I would see hundreds of them on the perimeter dust fence! If you see a construction project with a 10 ft high fence around it with black fabric on it then stay away. If you re out doing regular activities then you probably won t see any.

Alien(Introduced) Common Name:Cane SpiderEEEEEEeeeeeeek!!!!Scientific:Heteropoda venatoriaSize:3 to 4 inches wideColor:Light brownHabitat:Sea level to 9,000 ftDangerous:No - generally timid and rarely bitesCreepy! The Cane Spider (also known as the Large Brown Spider) is one big spider. Usually the size of a can of tuna fish, this spider has a huge body and thick hairy legs. The Cane Spider can be found on all the Hawaiian Islands and, as the name implies, the spider frequented the cane fields. Indeed, 4-wheeling through any abandoned cane field can result in a number of uninvited cane spiders attached to your vehicle. While certainly scary looking, this spider is actually quite a helpful arachnid. The Cane Spider does not spin a web, but instead hunts for food at night. Just about any insect is fair game for this spider, including cockroaches and silverfish.Cane Spiders are very reluctant to bite and prefer to run instead of defend. However, if sufficiently provoked the spider can bite and though rare, can inject venom. The spider s bite is small and usually does not result in any long term problems.Cane Spiders will often find their way into houses. While nobody wants to be startled by the sudden appearance of one of these hairy beasts, they are beneficial in the home and it is not recommended to kill the spider (either let it out or let it live in the home). The spider we have pictured on this page indeed came into the home where it disappeared into the bathroom only to reappear a number of times. First, when the toilet paper dispenser was rotated the spider dashed out - whoa. Second... picking up a bath towel from the floor, while stepping out of the shower, the spider jumped off the towel and dashed to the window - Eeeeek. Third, while hiding under the cupboards the spider dashed out and up over a friend s foot and up the wall - gak!Since the spider does not have a web the egg case is carried by the mother in her mouth for up to a month, during which time she will not eat and constantly guards the precious bundle of children.By the way... notice anything odd about our Cane Spider pictured here? He (or she) only has 7 legs, instead of 8 found normally on spiders. The 8th missing leg was probably lost in a battle with the cat or other local creature.

Cane spiders are found on all of the Hawaiian Islands. I don t know of anyone who has visited Hawaii and has seen them. By the way, they are afraid of people and often run away. They aren t considered dangerous (it s not poisonous) and hardly bite at all.

They re not dangerous, but they are scary looking!

What is a line up in the NYC MTA? -

I take the train a lot from the first stop, and I always hear the conductor ask the motorman via the loudspeaker; if he has the line up. I am curious to know what the line up is, if anyone knows can they please tell me.Thanks

What a lineup is when a train is ready to leave, what the signal face reads. At every terminal, when the train is ready to leave, the signals have to be ready to leave. There is a specific type of signal called a homeball. A homeball is a two face signal, with a top and bottom portion, and those are placed for switches. The top signal is for the mainline, and the bottom is for the other side of the switch. So, if a train leaves the station without switching over to another track, the homeball will be green over green. If the train is switching to another track, the signal will be green over yellow. However, when the G leaves Court Square and it has to make a double switch, the signal will be yellow over yellow. So, basically, when the train operator has the lineup, the homeball is not red over red, and also, the train s air pressure is correct (the train can t be left in the emergency brake position and the throttle has to be on), and then, the indicator light that tells the train operator that all the doors are closed is light. When all of that happens, that is when the conductor asks the train operator Do you have the line up? and then the train operator will say yes, or will give two buzzes to the conductor, and then the train will leave.

It has to to with the signals that are used to indicate one or more of the following:* that the line ahead is clear (free of any obstruction) or blocked.* that the driver has permission to proceed.* that points (also called switch or turnout in the US) are set correctly.* which way points are set.* the speed the train may travel.* the state of the next signal.* that the train orders are to be picked up by the crew.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railway_sigHere are Subway Emergency Radio Codes you may also hear.http://411newyork.org/guide/2007/05/21/n

Easiest way to get from LAX to Graumans Chinese Theatre? -

My sister and I are coming over to the USA from Australia for a holiday. We will be in LA on Monday 28 December for the day. We are flying into LAX, arriving around 7am on SouthWest Airlines. We fly out at about 8pm that same night to go to Vegas.Since we only have the day there, we want to do a Hollywood / LA tour and try to see as much as possible. We have found one we are keen to do that departs from Grauman s Chinese Theatre (6925 Hollywood Blvd) at 9am.I have looked at www.metro.net but the Trip planner keeps telling me that there are no options available for the trip we want to do.Investigating a bit further, it looks like we can take a Shuttle from LAX to Aviation/LAX station, take the Green Line train to Imperial/Wilmington station, then change to the Blue Line train and travel to 7th St/Metro and then change to the Red Line train and travel to Hollywood/Highland.Not knowing what the train system is like, is it easy to change Lines from Green to Blue and then Blue to Red? Are the stops in the same station (i.e. just have to change platforms) or do we actually have to leave the station and go to another station? Also, what is the best way to buy a ticket? Can we just buy tickets with cash on the Shuttle bus for the whole trip (including return to LAX at the end of the day) or do we have to buy separate tickets when we get to Aviation/LAX station for the train trip? Finally, is there an easier way to get to Grauman s (bearing in mind we HAVE to arrive before 9am or we will miss the tour)?

Simple. Take the Flyaway Bus from LAX to Union Station . Fare is about $7.00 and they run every 1/2 hour. Catch it under the blue signs at the baggage claim area. From Union Station take the Red Line subway to Hollywood/Highland . Fare is $1.25. You re there

if you are coming from Australia you cant fly on southwest cause they dont fly there!i have a better idea instead of you traveling all thatway did you know there are some tour companiesthat will pick you AT lax?here oneshttp://www.lacitytours.com/Layovers.asp

Peedlepup s answer is great. End of story. Just remember your luggage, youll have to do something with it! :D

This is unrealistic....You have to go through customs and even if you take a direct taxi during rush hour and you still won t get there by 9:00am most likely.....You need a much later tour or somehow meet up with the tour in progress......

Peedlepup s answer is great, but you probably will want to drop your luggage off somewhere. If you re only in LA for the day, remember to ask the airline to put the luggage on your next flight. You can buy a round-trip ticket back to LAX from Union Station - the fare is higher, of course, but just keep your original ticket and you can get back on without a problem.Paris Hilton is right, although condescending. You should see if you can arrange for a cab to take you to Grauman s.

From LAX, take the UNION STATION Flyaway shuttle. It will drop you off at Union Station in downtown. From there, you can take the red line subway to Hollywood/Highland (look at the metro rail map). The Flyaway will be faster than the green/blue/red line trip that you mentioned. However, if you choose to do that, you can buy a $5 day pass that is good for unlimited train rides, which will be cheaper than the Flyaway ($7 each way).
