How is life in Eugene, Oregon??? Crime, People? -

I just watched videos on Lane Community College, and I was shocked to see so many thugs promoting videos at lane. Then I see a bunch of videos of riots in Eugene. I see tons of Hippies. I see tons of disgruntled youth who treat others with disrespect I.E: Poser Anarchists verbally assualting a news reporter. This is not the Eugene, Oregon that was glamourized to me by friends. People said it was cool and laid back. Looks like a safe haven for punks. People who live there, please give me a clear answer, as youtube is not showing me alot of good things...Thanks...

There actually is very little crime. I ve lived there for 24 years and it s a safe place. Just don t cut down trees or mutilate them. People there hate it when others do that. Also, Eugene cannot exist as a glamourized place unless the people who move there contribute to the essence of what makes the city great. Don t move there just to roll around in it s liberality and progressivism, yet not contribute to it by not being active in the community, not exclusively supporting local businesses, cutting down trees, and living in a townhouse or new home that was built on a freshly-cut down forest.

Yes there is People, and yes since there are people there is also crime, just about any kind of people and just about any kind of crime. Just the way it works, get rid of the people and you will get rid of the crime.

There may not be a ton of crime, but you saw right, it is a safe-haven for run-aways, transients, homeless, beggars, etc. It is trash. I would not live there again for anything nor suggest it to anyone! We lived there for 5 months, found it to be a dump. It is hard to get a job there, and clearly I do not understand what the draw to the area is. There is a ton of hippies that try to make their trashy way a fun thing by calling themselves eccentric. The riots (on history I found) are more of a tree sitting thing of the past. I couldn t care either way. That does not really seem to be the thing going on anymore, but overall what is of concern is that they are so in open arms to people who make a life of being homeless corner beggars who would not want an actual job if it was offered to them. There are a lot better places to live, trust me. Don t make the mistake that we did.The music scene is not that great if you are interested, and yes there are a lot of poser people everywhere. The city smells of piss from homeless people shaking it wherever they can and the river is totally polluted. Homeless people bath in it too! I would not canoe or step foot in it for nothing! They try to blame it on Portland, but they are a huge contributor, so much for their conservation . It is really not that beautiful of a place. Also, I don t know what Dig is going on about up above, ha! but the people in that town couldn t give two F (Ks about whether or not you re a contributor . They will never care to get to know you, let alone, see if you are being active, in what, a town of over 100,000. It s a s-hithole. Don t listen to your friends. Need anymore advice? Let me know.

This is coming from a fourteen year old who lived in Eugene for five years (2002 - 2007).I LOVED Eugene. I miss it too. I m not sure if it s changed much but I went to Eugene recently (This summer) and it hadn t changed much. Same old. I guess it may depends on what area s you live in. I lived down in SE (U of O area) and there were a lot of good people. Yeah, there are druggies, hippies, homeless, etc. But it s not like the whole city is filled with them.Kids / Youth will be youth. There are horrible kids over here in Hawaii too. It is cool and laid back, from what I experienced anyway and my family can agree with me. I guess it depends on who you decide to socialize with and where you live. (I live in an apartment, btw). Like anywhere, it varies (again). You ll have to experience it for yourself to think what you want about it. It s like watching someone talk about racism towards white s in Hawaii and think that all locals are like that. That s bull. You need to experience and be a good person. See what kind of responses you get and if you like the town than tell yourself if you like it or not or if you think it s horrible or not.

Greyhound bus ticket? -

Can you buy a greyhound bus ticket the day of? It would be from Texas to Florida, and the money isn t going to be available until the day of the trip. Do you have to buy those kinds of tickets in advance? Are they more if you buy them that day and if so how much more?

Yes you can, buy it is a lot cheaper to buy the ticket 21 days or 14 days in advance. However, if you need to buy it the day of your trip, then that is what you have to do.

You can buy a ticket the same day. The discount isn t that much, especially around the holidays.

Island hopping should I book flights with a travel agency or wait till I get to Hawaii and book flights then? -

Going to Hawaii and want to island hop but would like to know if its best to book the different islands before I get there or wait till I m there and contact the airlines in Hawaii to go to different island.

What the other posters have said is true ... flights fill up quickly in Hawaii so it is best to book now if you know when you plan on travelling. Last time I travelled there were only a couple of airlines in Hawaii for interisland travel (Hawaiian and Go, could be more now) and both had different fares for each flight, and of course the cheaper fares will sell out sooner. If you wait until you get there you might end up only being able to find first-class seating and trust me, first-class for interisland travel is sooo not worth the extra expense. The flights are super short from island to island so do whatever you can to avoid paying for first-class seats that are not much more comfy than the regular ones.Your question mentions booking with a travel agency - check out rates on your own and compare them to travel agency rates. I know a lot of times it can be cheaper with travel agencies since they can buy in bulk. However, you will most likely find better deals on your own and avoid the middle man. Try the airlines Web sites first and compare to your travel agency rates. Or call a travel agency that is Hawaii based, like Panda. Also last tip - make sure to get your frequent flier miles for the interisland travel. I fly Hawaiian Airlines for interisland travel but was always able to get Northwest WorldPerks miles for those flights.Happy travels!

It s a toss up. If you wait until you get here, you will probably pay a little more than if you book a few weeks ahead of time. You may end up flying at a time of day you d rather not, or flying on a 9-seater (those are better for photography than they are for digestion). But unless you re traveling at a time of high traffic, you re not likely to get stranded on an island for an extra day or anything like that. Plenty of people do wait until they get here to make those interisland reservations. If you are very particular in your vacation planning (like me), where you know almost exactly what you are going to do on each day of your vacation, then you may want to book ahead of time. Also, if you are going to the smaller islands like Molokai or Lanai, you definitely want to make your arrangements ahead of time. Transportation to those places is so limited that a high school wrestling tournament, for example, could take up all the available seats for a weekend.

When I went to Kaua i and Maui a few years ago I booked it as a single multi-destination trip on Hawaiian Airlines and I think it saved me some money. Another advatage is that your return trip doesn t have to be from the same island you started on. Let s say you re planning to start out on Oahu. If you book only your round trip from home to Oahu and book your other flights later, you have to fly back to Oahu before you return home. If you book it as a multi-destination trip from the start, you could fly from Oahu to another island and fly home from there. That s one less flight and a lot less hassle.I d book directly through the airline s web site rather than using a travel agency. Travel agents add on service charges.

Book ahead of time directly with the airlines. There are 3 airlines that fly interisland:www.iflygo.com (Go! Airlines)www.hawaiianairlines.com (Hawaiian)www.mokulele.com (Mokulele)If you have less than 10 days in Hawaii, I don t recommend visiting more than 2 islands. There just isn t enough time to see the things you want to see on each island and you will spend a good portion of your vacation packing, waiting in airports, and turning in rental cars. Not fun.

Honestly, just to save yourself the trouble and stress, I d book them prior to leaving. The flights may be totally booked if you wait, or you may have to pay a lot more than you would if you bought ahead of time. If you re coming here on vacation, you won t want to have to stress about getting flights to the other islands.

Do it youself online. there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Coast Starlight Train info...(my first time riding a Train for a trip)? -

I m going to take a trip from California to Washington on Amtrak Coach Starlight...if anyone has any info on how the train is set up...if it s first come first serve for coach seating...do you bring ur luggage on the train with you or do they load it for you?...do you keep the same seat the whole trip...do they have a snack room or dinner room ??? any info on how riding the train works...this is my first time riding so any info will be so helpful thank you :)

The Coast Starlight is a beautiful trip, particularly from LA to San Francisco. As with most Amtrak trains, Coach is first come-first served. You get on the train and start looking for an empty seat. If you have trouble finding one, the car attendants/conductor can help. When the conductor comes through and collects your ticket, he/she will put a seat tag above your seat. That tag says this seat is occupied until and says your ending stop in a sometimes obscure conductor code. As the train approaches the next station, the conductor will come through and take the seat tags for everyone getting off at that stop, wake them up if needed, and announce the stop. If you don t like your current seat, watch to see who had their tags removed. When they get up to leave, take YOUR tag and move to the new seat. Coast Starlight also has a lounge car you can hang out at. Leave your seat tag if you leave your seat. If you have lots of luggage, you can check it at the station and pick it up when you get to your final stop. However, not all stops on all trains can handle checked luggage. Most people just carry their luggage on the train. There s more room overhead than on planes, plus many cars have overflow areas at one end. The Coast Starlight has both a snack car (Cafe) and a dining car. Both are expensive, so take your own snacks. The Coast Starlight is nicknamed the Starlate, so keep that in mind. Most cars have plugs for electronics. Your trip is overnight. Take a pillow (the ones Amtrak provides are teeney). Take a small toiletries bag with a washcloth, soap, tooth stuff, etc. In the morning, wash your face, brush your teeth, clean up pits and parts , and you ll feel much better.

I took it many years ago and don t remember. Call Amtrak and ask the same questions.

What is the closest beach to key largo? -

I can t seem to find a beach in key largo, so where is the closest beach located if you are familiar with the area. Thanks!

Yeah, the Keys are not known for having expansive beaches because the islands sit on top of hard coral reefs. Bahia Honda State Park is the exception, with an incredible beach, but that s quite a ride from Key Largo. Most beaches in the Keys are imported little pockets of sand. You ll find public beaches near Key Largo at John Pennekamp State Park at Mile Marker 102.5 and also at Harry Harris Park Beach at Mile Marker 92.5 (a kid-friendly beach). I believe there is a small fee at these locations. In addition, most of the major resorts around Key Largo have little private beaches too. I suppose if you don t see a private property sign, you can swim wherever you want. But beware! If you re going into the water, it would be best to wear some kind of footwear because there may be jagged coral. The last thing you need is a bloody foot.

key biscayne or miami beach, i once went to john pennekamp in key largo and got key lice the water in the keys is gross with very few exceptions. you can drive 15 minutes to the tiki bar hotel they have a beach behind but again the water is not great

What should I do/see in Chicago? -

Planning a trip there soon, what is there to do?

Many of the worlds tallest buildings and two of them have sky decks, Navy Pier, Millenium park, Worlds best shopping, dining, theaters, Museums, etc. Many great Bus and Boat tours.

Vince Vaughn!!! Haha, J/k. The downtown area is awesome. Lots of places to shop, I love going to Chicago. Dress warm! The windy city gets pretty chilly! :) Have fun!

What are some must haves when you go on vacation yo flordia? -

clothes anything just a nice list..the person with the most and has helpful things gets 10pts..(ohh btw im staying with my friend at her uncles so i wont need to many things tht id need at like a hotel lol)

What these have said is not true. We re having cold temperature now, not New York City cold but colder than our common temperature. It actually depends where you are going because the temperature, climate, etc is different in north florida, central florida, and south florida. And the temperature in Miami/Miami-Dade County is different than every place in Florida. It s more fresh and the sun is not annoying like how it is in other places in South Florida. It s better in every way. One great thing though, is that you can always go to the beach and enjoy better than any place in the States. But even in our current cold days it s MANDATORY to wear something to keep warm because it s really refreshing and you actually enjoy it, but at night most to all people wear something like a sweater or something. So you can bring long jean pants, jean shorts, cargo shorts, long and short sleeve shirts, honestly anything. The only thing I wouldn t recommend is bringing any New York City type clothes wear because it doesn t get that cold lol. Enjoy your flight. And P.S. I recommend Miami over any place in Florida, it has the best everything.

Well here in the Sunshine State it rarely gets really cold. I live here and I can tell you the last time it was cold was last January. So basically just tops like tank tops, t-shirts, some nice tops. etc.I would wear shorts or skirts but do bring long pants because if it suddenly gets cold for one day you will regret it. Bring flip flops for the beach but be sure to bring athletic shoes because for those long walking days you will be grateful for them. Bring some cardigans or light jackets because at night it does sometimes get a little chilly. If you are planning to go to the beach then sunglasses are always helpful. Just bring comfortable clothes because you probably want to do the nature type things.Just make sure you bring some comfy clothes!Enjoy your trip!!!!!!!!

As far as clothing, we here in the Sunshine State, are very casual.Bring along your normal beach attire. Shorts or skirts, bring a light jacket.Flip Flops or sandals a must have, suntan lotion, Have fun do alot of nature things, we have alot to offer.

Always get air brushed shirts or rocks or anything like that.Go to restaurants.

Who are all of the meetable characters at the Disney Resorts? -

I really appreciate all answersI m asking because, rumor has it, a lot of my favorite characters have been removed and are no longer at the parks! Thanks for the help!

Characters are rotated, and frequently new ones are added and older ones are removed. These characters can always return, and frequently do. Also, during certain special events you will see rare characters out. These events are usually Mickey s Very Merry Christmas Party and Mickey s Not So Scary Halloween Party.Wendy and Peter Pan are still characters out for meet greets. They can be found in Adventureland near Pirates of the Caribbean, just about daily. Pick up a times guide anytime you visit the park, and they will be listed on there. They are tucked back into Adventureland, a little bit hidden. Here is a very accurate list of all the characters in Disney who are available for meet greets, in order from common to rare.http://home.att.net/~disneysue/character

you could meet almost every character, but a lot of them are rare to see and find. I only once out of like the 17 times i have gone ( my family goes like twice a year) have ever seen the rest of Donald s family and the Queen of Hearts once. so you can meet the characters but remmeder a lot are had to find. If you want to find Daisy then go to Mickey s Camp in Animal Kingdom, she is there from 12:00pm - 1:00pm.

The last times I went (2007 and 2008) it was pretty much everyone. The usuals: Mickey,Minnie,Donald,Daisy,Goofy,Pluto,eThe princesses princesLilo SitchTigger PoohSome villainsWoodyBuzzRafikiTimonPumbaChip and Daleetc. There will probably be long lines to meet them but if you re willing to wait they will probably be there !If you re going soon have fun ! I m jealous !Really? I saw Peter Wendy. Maybe it s very recent. I wouldn t know the reason why. They are awesome!
