Will I be able to make it in NYC, given these conditions? -

I just got a job in Manhattan working in higher education. I plan to work and enjoy the city while also perusing post-graduate education. I am single, have no debt and make $54000. I moved into an apartment in Brooklyn with a good friend who lives here, and we ve split the rent (each pays $850). My family still can t believe I moved to NYC and is convinced I will return a failure (though they are hopeful). True, it will take a lot more money to maintain my previous standard of living, but I think this will work.

You will be fine. There are many who are doing it here on far less.

You will probably have a hard time finding a place that you can afford on your own - although Brooklyn is a big place with lots of price ranges, so if you do not care where you are you will always find something. The chances of you living in Manhattan are unlikely (without roommates).

Smart to move to Brooklyn with a respected although not a wow! salary. If you and your friend get along you should have no problem at least financially. Enjoy NYC!

I don t know where you lived before; yes, NYC is expensive, but being single, no debts, with a 54 K income; $850.-/mo rent you should do quite well Good Luck in your new job!

Piece of cake.
