my wife and i are planning to stay at the crowne plaza hotel (san francisco international airport) in burlingame.1. how do we get around? since the hotel is located along bayshore highway (is this correct?), do we have to use a cab to travel?2. from that location, would it be possible for us to go around by bus or train? using a taxi all the time would be pretty expensive.thanks!
That hotel should provide shuttle to the airport and at the airport, you should be able to take bart (subway system.) Cab would be pricey, I would use a cab only at night.. Powell station is where all the shopping is.. Please check out www.BARt.gov. *_~ So glad that you re considering San Francisco for your vacation.I hope this will help you..When you arrive at the airport, take the SFO air train that goes around the airport, then youll get off when you see Bart, take Bart to Powell Station (should be about $6-9 and it takes 20 mins ) thats Union Square. http://www.bart.gov/ for schedule..I just love the weather and the diverse culture here!! Traffic can be hectic but still bearable. Public transport is great! You can always take Bart, ferries, bus, taxi or cable car etc. However, if you dont have much time or want to travel beyond the city C I think a car would help a lot. Yes, you have to pay for parking, but save you time to go more places faster.. Try the City Sightseeing Open Top Bus Tour which is about $30. This unique open-topped bus tour of San Francisco includes four different routes, the Downtown Loop, the Golden Gate Loop, the Park Loop, and the Night Loop. You re free to hop on and off as often as you want on the downtown loop.Embarcadero is wicked nice, and it s not THAT far, so you could really just walk down it to the Ferry Building. http://www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com/ On Saturdays they do a nice farmer s market and you can get lots of good stuff. I second Parkerd s suggestion of hotel Shuttle to Bart [Airport station]. Driving in SF can be expensive, confusing and frustrating for visitors [hills, traffic, one way streets, parking]. Once you are in San Francisco use Muni to get around. Adult Fare is $2 with a transfer that is good for 90 minutes or if you are going to be in the city for multiple days get a 3, 5 or weekly pass which is good on all forms of Muni Transportation including the cable car [$5 for each ride if purchased individually]. A good transit map will help you figure out how to get around. Check out Muni s website before you come for some good ideas or you can purchase a map and muni passes at the Muni kiosk at SFOhttp://www.sfmuni.com
You can catch Caltrain on Broadway California Dr. just the other side of the 101 freeway about a 1/2 mile from your hotel. Take it to Bart at Mellbrea station Take Bart into the city. Or take Caltrain to the last stop (AT T PARK) and catch the MUNI (N JUDITH) INBOUNT it will also take you in to the city.Want more info visit
The train goes from SFO to downtown, so if you are close enough to get to SFO you could do that. Don t know about buses. Check the transit authority website or a guidebook [printed or on line] for maps and info. If you want to see/do things in downtown SF, you d be much better off staying downtown and avoiding the commute .TripAdvisor.com has destination guides and lists of hotels with comments from past guests.
The hotel should have a shuttle to the airport.Take that, jump on BART and you will be in San Francisco before you know it.
