Planning a holiday in California (L.A, San diego) any tips, advice? -

This summer me and my family of 5 would like to have a holiday in California (lots of different places) and I am just now at the stage of about to start planning it, but any help would be much appreciated :)

There are literally hundreds of things to do here in LA. Here is my list of must sees. Visit as many as you have time for.:Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors cant be wrong. #1 Destination. Universal Studios: A theme park that grew out of a studio tour. #2 Destination.Even if you dont visit Disneyland or Universal Studios Tour, Downtown Disney District and Universal City Walk are very fun places to visit for shopping and eating. And theyre free to visit. Check out citypass.com for the best deal on admission to Disneyland, Universal, and San Diego s Sea World and zoo.Hollywood: Enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Chinese Theatre and more. You can see a lot for free. The Hollywood Highland complex has lots of shops and restaurants, and the Kodak Theater. The El Capitan theater, right across the street, is where Disney shows their movies. And the Hollywood Bowl is a GREAT place to listen to concerts outdoors. Olvera Street/Union Station: Olvera Street is the birthplace of LA, and it emphasizes our Mexican heritage. In addition to the Avila Adobe (oldest building in LA), you can eat at some pretty good Mexican Restaurants, do a little shopping, and taste a churro. If you dont want to go to Tijuana, this is as close as it gets without going there. Union Station has great architecture from a bygone age. Also, you are 2 blocks from Phillippes (see below).Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed with exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all came to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.Venice Beach: Los Angeles kitsch and over-the-top culture at its best. Here you ll find Muscle Beach, street performers and tacky shops galore. Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after dark, when it gets a little TOO interesting for my taste. Santa Monica: Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies. After visiting the pier, you can ride a bike south a couple miles to Venice Beach. Sunset Boulevard began as a route between the stars posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the ocean, passing through the Sunset Strip on its way.Farmers Market and The Grove - A new shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles landmark, It is right next to CBS, so walk across the lot to see if they are taping The Price is Right . You might even get in.Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.Getty Museum - The Getty s architecture is so beautiful that it keeps me fascinated. No matter whether you like their art, architecture, or view better, the Getty is sure to please. Free.Attend a TV taping - You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, tvtix.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It s very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the Tonight show. Check the NBC web site for all the details there.Places to eat:In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.Pinks Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. You might even see a celebrity. Maybe.Tommys Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. The original location is at Beverly Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.Canters Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly Melrose. Near CBS, you might spot a celebrity.Phillippes: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station and Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, its hot.Titos Tacos: Voted best tacos in LA, even though its in Culver City. The Pantry: Corner of Figueroa and 9th, downtown. Huge portions, they never close, GREAT steak and eggs.Places to Stay:Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. In Hollywood, I recommend the Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity Hotel, or Holiday Inn Walk of Fame, all near Hollywood and Highland. Another one is the Best Western Sunset Plaza. In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced. In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. There is also a nice place in Burbank called the Best Western Media Center, very close to Warner, NBC, and Universal Studios.Places to Shop:Third Street Promenade, Santa MonicaThe Grove, Los AngelesAmericana @ Brand, GlendaleBeverly Center, Los AngelesCitadel Outlets, CommerceBrea Mall, BreaThe Block at Orange, OrangeSouth Coast Plaza, Costa MesaFashion Island, Newport BeachSantee Alley, Los Angeles

You picked a good time to visit Southern California. If you can pipoint your trip to be in either July or August it would be better for you. We experience May Gray and June Gloom due to the marine layer being drawn over the land. The weather is much nicer in July and August.I ve been a San Diego guy for 40+ years and really say there are only a few primary attractions here. The Zoo and Balboa Park, Sea World and the Wild Animal Park. The rest of the attractions are very nice, but aren t in the same league as the big-3.Los Angeles has a couple more Tier-1 must see attractions than San Diego, but then the remainder are just things to do to fill up a day and spend money on.I don t know what your purse strings look like, but if you could book rooms at the beach for your vacation then you will have an extra good time.

Order a FREE California visitors guide. They contain maps and descriptions of places tourists like to visit. Quite a few places, like Los Angeles and San Diego, also have their own visitor s guides. I ve lived in California for 4 years and I ve used the guides to help me discover my new home.

What is the official name of the trapeze hang glider through the forest? -

I saw on tv once something like a trapeze you glide through the forest on. In planning for my upcoming honeymoon I want to find a destination location that has this. Does anyone know what the official name of this is called so I could easily look it up?

It s called a zipline. I know that San Diego s Wildlife Animal Park has a zipline.

Which theme is the best to attend in orlando? -

going to orlando over christmas break and want to visit some theme parks. I would like to Universal studios and Island of adventures and wet n wild. Disney is mainly for little kids since my brother and I are young adults and my family don t little kids anymore. Which park is the best to visit?

Disney caters to younger children more than Universal, but there are still lots of attractions that are great for adults. However, Christmas is THE busiest time of year at Disney, so if you hope to stay at a Disney resort, you are too late to book unless you just happen to catch a cancellation.Universal Islands are good parks, but they will also still be crazy-busy. Just be aware that if you hope to go to theme parks, you need to get a good guidebook or two and make a plan before you go.

Disney caters to ALL audiences, not just kids. I recommend Epcot and Disney s Hollywood Studios for young adults. Epcot has lots to see and some exciting rides including Mission Space and Test Track, the countries around the world are also interesting to see and serve alcohol, and the night firework show Illuminations is also one of the best. Disney s Hollywood Studios also has several thrill rides including Tower of Terror and Rock n Rollercoaster. Enjoy!

Disney is not for little kids, in fact most of the little brats do not appreciate what to takes to get them there.

RedSprings to Monroe Nc!!!?? BF TROUBLE? -

Whats an area meeting have way to RedSprings Nc to Monroe Nc..

Interesting you mention Monroe haha since my parents live right outside of there haha- doubt if anyone else will know of it offhand without looking. Halfway though- theres only two cities of any size worthwhile on 74 to stop in with stuff in it, but Rockingham is about 45 miles, or right in between each city and the bigger of the two to meet in. (The other city being Wadesboro but its not halfway). It has all of the restaurants/movie theaters/shopping etc you would like.
