Things to do/see OFF THE BEATEN PATH in Austin in January? -

My girlfriend s birthday is January 27th and I want to take her down to Austin for a day or two (maybe the 26th and 27th). I am planning on taking her to a comedy show the night of the 27th, but I need ideas of what we can do and see during the day before the show. We are into the more quirky, unusual, off-the-beaten-path kind of sites/activities, but I am open to any suggestions. She really likes outdoor kind of activities and I wanted to take her canoeing, but I fear it will be too cold. Other things she/we like:-Photography (any exhibits we should see?)-outdoor activities (keep the temperature in mind)-comedy-vegetarian food/restaurants-antique/vintage storesIdeas?

The Blanton Museum at the University of Texas would be a good spot for current photography exhibits.Ester s Follies in the downtown area is always good for a laugh. Greater Tuna may be showing at the Paramount Theater.Climbing Mt. Bonnell is kind of neat.Probably not too cold for canoeing, but I don t know if the rental places are still open. I think it depends on the weather. You can check the schedules and see if there is a UT basketball game.Try www.austintexas.com or www.austin360.com

If the weather s warm (it s Austin so warm days in January are common) then you could head to Hippie Hollow and giggle at the naked people.

You ought to ask yourself whether seeing is what you sincerely have your heart set on by the day

Where to live? Must have trees and water!? -

My husband and I are thinking of relocating and want to move to a place with lots of trees and water (preferably a creek or lake) to raise our family. We don t mind a little bit of snow and really dislike hot weather. We would like to be out in a woods a little bit but still close to civilization. Affordable housing would be good too! Any suggestions?

Minneapolis (City of Lakes), Minnesota fits your description the best. The city is abundantly rich in water with over twenty lakes and wetlands, the Mississippi river, creeks and waterfalls, many connected by parkways in the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway. The average yearly temperature is 45.4 F, so you have chill weather thru the year. There are a few occasional hot and humid days during the summer. Arts and Sports are abundant and the city is only second to New York for live theatre arts plays. The Grand Rounds Scenic Byway extends for, roughly, 50 miles and offers the best parks system in the country. Good Luck!

Appleton, WisconsinMy best friend lives there. My Sister in Laws sister lives thereThey wouldnt live anywhere else.

DC area, West virgnia

Connecticut has those things but we are pricey.

Where are the boundaries of Chinatown in Lower Manhattan? -

Does anyone know where it starts and ends (east to west and north to south or however you want to describe it)?

here s one page showing the different NY neighborhoods:http://www.galttech.com/research/travel/here are some more detailed Chinatown maps:http://www.galttech.com/research/travel/Yes, in general Canal is the northern border, though Chinatown keeps creeping north. And Worth in the south, though Chinatown extends along Division and E. Broadway and Henry as you head east towards the Manhattan Bridge. To the East, The Bowery is kind of where the city ends there and the approach to the Manhattan Bridge begins.

The traditional borders of Chinatown are:-Canal Street in the North (bordering Little Italy)-The Bowery in the East (bordering the Lower East Side)-Worth Street in the South-Baxter Street in the WestNew York s Chinatown is one of the largest Chinese communities outside of Asia.Good luckNative New Yorker

Bear in mind that the borders keep on expanding into Little Italy and the Lower East side. You will see, hear and smell when you are there.

Start up cost moving to california? -

okay i know im a little ahead of myself, im a freshman in college, i will graduate in 2013. I currently go penn state university. I have always wanted to live in california my whole life, have been there more times than i can count. Im gonna start saving up for it now! I already have close to 5,000 dollars but i dont want to touch that money at all. I was thinking of opening another account to start saving, ill only use the other money only if it is absoluetly neccessary and i need some extra cash. I plan to use transportation to move my car. I want to live and work there. So how much do you think i would need for start up cost, i was thinkin at least 10,000- 15,000 dollars?

Your $10000 - $15000 estimate is adequate to last you about 3 months tops. Your BIGGEST problem is that California is in a recession and has the 2nd highest unemployment rates in the country. Jobs here are almost non existent. You could easily spend all of your funds before you were able to find work. Things here are also about 50% more than in Pennsylvania. Just starting out you can t earn enough to live here by yourself. A modest studio apartment in a decent area will start in the $1000 -$1200 a month range. You would probably need 2 or 3 roommates, and that creates a problem itself.

American Airlines Center Seating for concert...will they be good seats? -

I bought tickets to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra this December. I ve been in the AAC before for a Mavs game, but haven t been to a concert with the endstage layout which is the seating chart that I looked at when I bought my tickets- https://www.ticketmaster.com/seatingcharOur seats are in floor seating, Section 18, Row C. I was excited that I got a hold of some floor seats right in front of the stage, but do you think we will be able to have a clear view, since we are in more of the back part of it?

Yes. The view from most places on the floor is OK. Except for rock concerts...people tend to stand up a lot and if you re not very tall and sit several rows back, you won t see much. Bring a pair of binoculars in any case.

How long does it take something to ship from Georgia to Pennsylvania? -

I ordered something from Georgia and i was wondering how long it would take to get here (and i ordered it on a Friday night.)

It depends on how the item is shipped. Express mail, overnight. Parcel Post, several days.
