Things to do/see OFF THE BEATEN PATH in Austin in January? -

My girlfriend s birthday is January 27th and I want to take her down to Austin for a day or two (maybe the 26th and 27th). I am planning on taking her to a comedy show the night of the 27th, but I need ideas of what we can do and see during the day before the show. We are into the more quirky, unusual, off-the-beaten-path kind of sites/activities, but I am open to any suggestions. She really likes outdoor kind of activities and I wanted to take her canoeing, but I fear it will be too cold. Other things she/we like:-Photography (any exhibits we should see?)-outdoor activities (keep the temperature in mind)-comedy-vegetarian food/restaurants-antique/vintage storesIdeas?

The Blanton Museum at the University of Texas would be a good spot for current photography exhibits.Ester s Follies in the downtown area is always good for a laugh. Greater Tuna may be showing at the Paramount Theater.Climbing Mt. Bonnell is kind of neat.Probably not too cold for canoeing, but I don t know if the rental places are still open. I think it depends on the weather. You can check the schedules and see if there is a UT basketball game.Try www.austintexas.com or www.austin360.com

If the weather s warm (it s Austin so warm days in January are common) then you could head to Hippie Hollow and giggle at the naked people.

You ought to ask yourself whether seeing is what you sincerely have your heart set on by the day
