The Barbary Coast....................The Barbary Coast, or Barbary, was the term used by Europeans from the 16th until the 19th century to refer to the Maghreb, the middle and western coastal regions of North Africawhat is now Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya. The name is derived from the Berber people of north Africa. In the West, the name commonly evokes the Barbary pirates and slave traders based on that coast, who attacked ships and coastal settlements in the Mediterranean and North Atlantic and captured and traded slaves from Europe and sub-Saharan Africa.

The western coast of Africa has long been known by what nickname? -
How are the winter weather conditions along Highway 101 from Oregon to California? -
Wow. A lot to consider here. Mid January is a tough call for you no matter which route you choose. Starting in Bend, I don t see how you avoid at least the possibility of snow on some pass. Here are the options I see: 1) Take 97 to Weed then I-5 South. You only need a little luck to be essentially home free after Mt Shasta City. The roads are generally in good shape, not that curvy, and if it does snow, it will be more powdery and easy to drive without chains. Can someone caravan with you, at least to Weed?2) If you are set on heading over to 101, I would recommend the Lake of the Woods Hwy 140 from K-Falls to Medford as your route over the Cascades. Again, a generally straight, easy road to travel if it is snowing. I would avoid Willamette Pass (58) or Santiam Pass (20) or the Diamond Lake Hwy (138) if it will be snowing.3) Hwy 101 can have its own winter challenges. First, it will add A LOT of time to your trip, certainly more than 3 hours. Second, while snow is less likely, torrential rain often causes mudslides and wash outs that temporarily close the road in parts of N CA.If it were me, without chains, but otherwise good tires, I would do the 97 to 5 route and hope for the best. Make sure you will have daylight for the entire 97 part. That route is the fastest AND the least likely to cause problems for you in snowy weather. Being east of the Cascades for most of that route is your friend. Start early. Pack extra food, water, and blankets. Expect a jack-knifed semi to cause a long delay. If it is snowing in Bend the morning you plan to leave, expect a slow trip to Klamath Falls, but then more normal speeds as you go south. Try to convince someone to caravan with you to Weed. Have a plan to stop for the night if you are delayed - like in Redding.Check the ODOT web cameras before you leave. They have pass cameras everywhere.
Which is a nicer State...Tennessee or North Carolina? -
I currently live on the western part of TN and I lived in the eastern part of TN in college. Personally I prefer east TN. The people are nicer, less crime, the landscape is prettier, it s also a lot cleaner. West TN there is way more crime. Another good thing about TN is there is no state income tax- however that raises the sales tax. When I was in Bristol, TN I would just drive 5 mins away over to the VA side were sales tax is about half. Knoxville is AWESOME! In NC, my favorite parts are Asheville and Charlotte. A lot of people like the Outer Banks. I have never lived in NC, just visited, and its beautiful. I don t think you could really go wrong with either state.
I d rather live in North Carolina. It s a beautiful state, very nice place to live (well, in most parts). The Outer Banks are gorgeous. The rural area between Raleigh and OBX is crappy but the rest of the state is quite nice, especially out west in Asheville. The cities are extremely suburban in nature, but I suppose some people like that, I don t mind it. Raleigh and Charlotte have been improving their downtown areas a lot. From what I ve seen in Tennessee, I personally wouldn t want to live there, however there are nice parts of TN too. Franklin, TN is a really nice place.
Flip a coin. Both are very beautiful states, but North Carolina has a coast line.
I prefer Tennessee and East Tennessee as the best part of course that is where I live :)

Is it ever even a little bit cold in California? -
Wherever you choose to live it should be on the coast somewhere. That way it ll be sunny for him with a nice breeze for you. I live in Ventura County and the hottest it gets here is 85 and the coldest like 40. Its really nice.
You might want to consider the north central coast area. The Pacific breezes generally keep winters from getting very cold or summers very hot.http://www.wunderground.com/US/CA/Santa_If you split up, you might like South Lake Tahoe. BF might like El Centro.
San Francisco is usually cold, only a few hot days a year. Lake Tahoe would be good for you also. I grew up in the Bay Area (San Jose) and experienced anywhere from 25 degrees F to 120 F.
duh. california is not all beach and sunshine...the bay area is hasent gon below 38 and hasent been above 108. or maybe some where near nevada.it snows and cann reach like 115
We have that special kind of snow in our mountains that never needs cold. Haven t you ever seen those videos of bikini babes skiing?
