Is it true that people from Buffalo (US) have curious surnames? -

Is it true that people from Buffalo (US) have curious surnames?the band Goo Goo dolls is from Buffalo and they are called:John Rzeznik , Robby Takac, and the trummer whose surname is Malinin, and the former drummer was Tutuskais it usual in Buffalo??? by the way I like those original surnames

We have lots of Polish, Russian, Hungarian, German, Greek Orthodox, and Czech people here in Western NY state. I love to hear people from out of town trying to pronounce eastern European/ Mediterranean surnames.

Whats a good girls getaway resort in Scottsdale thats not ridiculously expensive? -

I was hoping for something that has massages, yoga, and a nice atmosphere for the holidays.

It s high season, so you d be hard pressed to find something other than pretty pricey this time of year. In July, you will get bargains, bargains, bargains. From the holidays through Spring Break, not so much. Travelzoo.com does a pretty impressive job of keeping up on the latest, best specials. They have a listing of a few going on the in Phoenix area now. You may want to start there and see what you find. http://www.travelzoo.com/search/?q=Arizo You may not get the 5 star Scottsdale resorts for $100 a night, but you may run into a pretty good deal at a pretty decent resort.

I saw this ad for the Arizona Biltmore resort ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGE Includes a Classic Room plusbreakfast, lunch, dinner and resort fee.Rates starting from US$299*Sounds like a good deal

Are there any good spots with an open bar for New Years eve in New Jersey besides Atlantic City? -

Are you not from around here? Try Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant, HOBOKEN, Belmar, Pier Village in Long Branch......The list goes on but Hoboken will probably be just as good if not better than AC

What is the weather like in Maine, particularly near the top? -

I would like to know the general weather in Maine, particularly towards the top in Aroostook county to be exact if that matters. I would like to know the general weather in each season, is it really hot in summer, really cold in winter...ect. Does it rain alot? Snow alot? Any other information you could give me would be great.

aroostook is known as the county --it s one of the most remote places in the country---the weather is pretty brutal--i live in maine and have only passed through there a couple times in my life---winters are very cold with quite a bit of snow---summers are hot and humid basically with quite a bit of rain from all the humidity

The northern part of Maine is very cold and they get a lot of snow. The only thing I can tell you is there are a lot of farms and they grow potatoes

Freezing omg were getting same in uk tomorrow am shivvering now love

Do a search on Bar Harbor, Maine. It is 37 degrees today.

winter ? i think i am right .

Travel from NYC Penn Station to the Izod Center in NJ? -

My husband and I are visiting NYC over New Year s and we ll be going to a Nets-Cavs game in New Jersey. I found the NJ Transit website (below) regarding travel to the Izod Center and it says that I will connect in Seacaucus Junction. Should I purchase tickets in advance? There seem to be several trains so I m not sure it s necessary. How early should we leave - game is at 1 p.m. Thanks for any help.http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.s

You can purchase your train ticket on the day of the game. There is no need to purchase them in advance. In case you need to know haw to get to the Izod Center, here s to get there from New York Penn Station.Take any westbound NJ Transit train from Penn Station to Secaucus Junction, where you can then transfer to a shuttle bus to the Meadowlands Sports Complex. When taking the train from Penn Station, please make sure the destination on the departure board has the initials SEC displayed next to the train number. SEC stands for Secaucus Junction.A round trip ticket on NJ Transit from Penn Station to Secaucus Junction, which includes the transfer to the shuttle bus will cost $7.75. Please buy you ticket at Penn Station before boarding and hold on to your ticket because you will have to show it to the bus driver when transfering at Secaucus Junction.I hope this information is very helpful.Good luck

You cannot lose by getting tickets in advance. But if you are going to be in Manhattan, look here in terms of how to get there.http://www.mta.info/mta/sports/

You do not need tickets in advance. Leave at 11 AM, just in case.Enjoy the game.

How do i go about booking a good hotel at a cheap rate? -

fot lauderdale florida, residence inn or similar brand

I searched on this site and got the Cheapest Hotel, check it out,it also had discount coupon codes for expedia,orbitz,travelocity,kayak,pricelihttp://freetravel4ever.blogspot.com

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Can anyone please help... I got a few questions bout Maui... thanks!...? -

So 1 month ago i was in BEAUTIFUL hawaii!... =)... (Waikiki beach area)... but NEXT year we are planning to go to Maui... my questions are... 1). how is the weather in Maui in October? 2). When going to Maui what airport will we arrive in? 3). we want to rent like a condo or a place were we can actually cook our own food, any suggestions?... somewhere nice near the beach... 4). Where (what website) can i get good deals on flights?... Should i already buy the tickets now or wait? will i get a better deal if i buy them now?... 5). What is there to do during the month of October in Maui?... or what is there to do period?... i think those are all my questions for now!... =)... i will be going with my boyfriend and MAYBE my sister... THANK YOU SO MUCH for your time!... oh and im planning to stay for 10 days or 2 weeks... also should we rent a car?...

1) October can be hot. The rainy season usually starts a bit later, but some parts of the island (Hana, Waihee) are much rainier than others (Kihei, Lahaina) in any case. 2) Probably OGG-Kahului, definitely OGG if you re on a jet. A few small planes go to Kapalua or Hana. Most of them are 9-seaters on island hops. You ll get the safety speech directly from the pilot, who will ask you to take your aloha bag with you when you get off the plane if you use it. Those flights are great for taking pictures, not so great for digestion. Wait until you arrive to eat.3) Plenty of condos near the beach in Kihei and north of Lahaina. There are plenty of agencies who connect owners with renters. I like to use VRBO.com when I go on vacation to other places.4) As a general rule, you ll get the best deals about three weeks before you leave, and you ll have fewer changes to the flight plan. Cheap Tickets and Pleasant Holidays are two websites people from Hawaii often use. Hawaiian airlines often has some good deals on their own website, and they are celebrating their 80th anniversary this year.5) Let s see: surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding, stand up paddling, snorkeling, scuba diving, snuba diving, Maui Ocean Center, ululena, local music performances, attend a luau, drive up a dormant volcano, go hiking, shopping, swimming, hanging out on the beach, golfing, tennis, driving to Hana, people watching on Front Street in Lahaina, taking a ferry to Molokai or Lanai, eating fantastic food inspired globally and grown locally, and the usual drinking or going to the movies.6) You should rent a car. Maui is much more spread out than Oahu. There is a bus system with several routes, but some of them only run every 90 minutes. You don t want to spend your vacation waiting on a bus. Plus, Maui is very drivable. Compare it to Oahu, a slightly smaller island with 7 times more people trying to get to work, school, the mall, little league games, and the supermarket. Maui does occasionally have traffic jams, but we are surprised when they happen.

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Why American dont learn from Chinese? -

You needn t go to China to know Chinese, 25% people in SF are Chinese. Many work in retail, restaurant or other service jobs, make $9.79 minimal salary, but they spend much much less than American, and save a lot of cash to buy house in SF, even not in fancy area( sunset, silver,bayview...) and change garage to be in-law units and rent out.If some American act like Chinese, and have a good budget plan, the financial crisis, house crisis ,job crisis will not happen, and US will not in huge debts to China.

this is a great question. it also has the perfect answer. the oldest society on this planet against 225 years. strong family values. tremendous work ethic. successful post secondary education. pride over ego . respect for others. lot of lessons should be learn ed. this simple question is brilliant and very very accurate. every area of north america could learn a lesson. the economy stabilized within a year. poster asked answered a viable solution without a billion dollar hearing.

you would be better off learning spanish the chinese. 15.1% of the total us population is of hispanic heritage while only 4.4% is asian (not just chinese, all asian).10.7% of the population speaks spanish compared to only 2.7% asian/pacific islander.according to the census bureau the number of hispanics will grow to 30% by 2050, while asians only 4%.

Well if this is true then why is America more powerful and wealthier than China? By Far!

because American think they are No 1, and always right.

There are a good number of non-Chinese people who do this, as well.

Well if this is true then why is America more powerful and wealthier than China? By Far! This is assuming America is wealthier than China, which isn t true. And as far as more powerful ... I guess that depends on how you define power. Also, the Chinese population of SF is only about 20%, not 25%... but I suppose that s nitpicking and beside the point. If anything, I d say this is more of an issue of immigrants vs. non-immigrants, as other ethnicities (especially Ashkenazi in the Richmond) do the same. But it s typically only 1st generation... by 2nd generations, most are just as big spend-a-holics as anyone else in SF.Anyway, I definitely agree with the point that many Americans (in SF especially) spend way too much and very irresponsibly. The fact that anyone making more than $30k/year in SF would at any point be hurting for money (exceptions made for freakish/unexpected medical bills, etc...) is just ridiculous. People spend way too much on things they don t need, and seem to somehow think they re entitled to do so and act like a victim when they manage to squander $100k/year. That said, I know people - non-immigrants, at that - who live on minimum wage, and under $20k/year IN SAN FRANCISCO fairly comfortably. It s definitely not impossible, and some Americans already do so (I do... I don t even know what I d do with some of the insane salaries people get and still end up broke with... I mean, I could never spend that much - there are only so many books worth buying/reading).

Moving to America help needed!? -

Right, i want to move to kentucky lexington and am currently living in England. i dont know what im suppose to do first or anyhting!?anyone help

I suspect that you stand about as much chance of getting a green card as a snowflake does of not melting in hell.

You just want to move there, or do you have an actual reason to move there? Are you planning to become a legal resident? Are you going to want to/need to get a job?You need to start by:-- getting a UK passport-- saving a significant amount of money-- read everything on this site which will tell you about immigrating to the US:http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis-- start filling out forms-- have a great deal of patience for the whole process to workGood luck to you.

Wouldn t the first step be to get a passport? Then go on an apartment hunting site and see what s available in the area. Then make a trip out herre to see the place.IDK...

Move to Australia and we can be buddies.

Kentucky?!Can I ask WHY?!!

You re doing a big mistake.

Good place to live? texaS? -

Were thinking about moving to Tx.. Mcallen area,,, does any one know how safe it is over there??and also san antonio,,,which is better??

I would not go to McAllen but mostly because I am a city girl and there s nothing city about McAllen. However if you are into midsize towns, nothing bad to say.

San Antonio is the only Texas city I would even consider living in, as it s a very cool, safe and nice city.

I just wanna ask, what can you say about Baltimore, Maryland? -

you re probably wondering why i asked such a question. It s because I ll be transferring there next year i just wanna know what kind of place I ll be living in. :)

Well Baltimore is an interesting city. You want to talk about crime and corrupt politics, Baltimore has it. You want to talk about cool places to visit, upscale neighborhoods, sports, museums, Little Italy, other bars/restaurants, the inner harbor, Baltimore has those too. I guess it all depends on where you live and what you want to do, chances are though that you will be looking into a downtown neighborhood somewhere close to the inner harbor where you should be OK. If Italian food is your thing, Baltimore has it s own little Italy section. It s not a knock off of NY, as Baltimore being a port city also drew in immigrants, and evidently enough Italian families of it s own to relegate in a neighborhood. I haven t been down there in quite a while but you pretty much can t go wrong with most of the restaurants there. Chiapperelli s is one I ve heard good things about, but here is a link that can help you for Little Italy http://baltimore.about.com/od/fooddrink/ This neighborhood may not be something you do every weekend, but it can be a nice place if you have parents/family in town.As for the inner harbor, everything in Baltimore that s fun is pretty close to the harbor if not right on it. The first Mariner arena is nearby which is a venue for concerts and other events. There is also Rams Head Live at Power Plant live, power plant live is an outdoor rock venue, with a bunch of restaurants and clubs surrounding it at Market Place, there is also an indoor concert venue Rams Head Live at Market place, you have to walk through the Power Plant Live area to get to it. There is also Oriole Park at Camden Yards and right next door is M T Bank Stadium where the Ravens play. Chances are more likely that if sports are your thing, you ll take in a baseball game. Unfortunately the Orioles haven t had a winning season over the past decade, but the stadium is beautiful and one of the more charming points about Baltimore city.If you like reading or writing, you can always check out the little House where Edgar Allan Poe lived, his grave site is also in Baltimore. http://www.ci.baltimore.md.us/governmentThere is also the National Aquarium in town http://www.aqua.org/ If checking Ocean life is your thing. I used to go there as a kid, always a cool place. I m sure it hasn t lost it s appeal ;). There are also a lot things you will discover once you get into Baltimore. If you ever want to have a little fun, go into the bars and restaurants at Canton, Federal Hill (a.k.a known to some locals as Fed Hill), or Canton. Party nightlife really isn t my scene, but If you like it you will find a lot of it in those areas. Like history, check out where what became our National Anthem was written, Fort McHenry. It s Baltimore.Well that s about it for the fun stuff I can think of this late. So let me say that if you are wondering about town, you are best served to avoid anywhere on North ave, and also the entire Cherry Hill neighborhood. If you value your belongings and your life, those are areas you don t want to gamble with. Also just for your reference, Baltimore is an independent city within Maryland. It is not a part of any county, although sometimes Baltimore is referred to as Baltimore City to make a clear distinction between the city and Baltimore County which surrounds most of the city. You may not be aware of that, and to me growing up near Baltimore I was under the notion that most major US cities weren t a part of any respective counties. Anyway, good luck transferring to Baltimore, have fun while you are in Maryland!

I am from potomac, MD (very close to DC), but do visit baltimore often and have family there. although baltimore is known for it s crime, there are many high points to the city. Most buildings are very old. i m not sure how to describe it, but in areas that aren t completely run down, it s almost like being taken back in time... there are some really nice spots left over from baltimore s boomtown days (1950 s and 60 s) that are reminiscent of a bygone era (in a good way). The nicer neighborhoods of well-kept row houses are almost like tight knit small towns... Also. there are some nice places to go to like the national aquarium (it s called the national aquarium because the only aquarium in DC is in the basement of some building and just can t compare), and the baltimore zoo which, in my opinion, is better than the smithsonian national zoo... the baltimore zoo is very kid friendly (my little brother loves to go there) they have polar bears and okapi and a lot other stuff the national zoo does nt have. also the inner harbor is great and the maryland science center, and if you have kids, port discovery was a favorite of mine when i was little. however... my mom always does hide her GPS in the glove compartment when we go there... :P

I think the character Pinhead in the Hellraiser movie series summed it up quite nicely... Down the dark decades of your pain, this will seem like a memory of Heaven. I had a friend that wanted to take his young children to see the aquarium near the Inner Harbor area. He parked his car in a nice parking garage and went touring. When he went back to his car, he found that someone had broken the passengery side window out so they could retrieve a whopping 60 cents in loose change that was on the floor of the car. Gotta like that eh? $120 replacement window repairs so some crackhead could get 60 cents. That pretty much sums-up Baltimore for me.Oh yeah. And another friend went to an Oriels game at Camden Yards. Someone stole 2 wheels off of his car.

Most of Baltimore is a cesspool of crime, drugs and inconsiderate people. However there are a few areas in the city that have some culture and are relatively safe. Roland Park and Charles Village are the upscale areas of the city. Federal Hill, Hampden, Fells Point and Mt. Vernon are the trendy nightlife areas where a lot of the college kids and young professionals live, work and play. These areas are generally pretty safe most of the time just by the nature of the people that inhabit the area but there is still crime. The Inner Harbor is a touristy area and used to be safe but is quietly being overrun with gangs hanging around looking for petty crimes to commit. Pretty much any of the areas outside the ones I mentioned you are taking your chances. Outside of Baltimore in the suburbs is a crap shoot as well. Much like DC, generally if you are inside the Beltway (I-695), the areas have higher poverty and crime but this is not the hard fast rule. Don t mean to bring you down or make you worry about your decision to come to Baltimore. The town has a lot of problems. What you see on The Wire is an exaggeration but based in reality. Take precautions, use common sense and you should be fine.

Ace of Cakes, man, Ace of Cakes. Duff Goldman, Charm City Cakes. =D

The Baltimore accent is the most annoying one in existence.

Good luck you can have it, I wouldn t live there. Better get a permit.

All I can say is RAY LEWIS!

21 and over movie theater in Vegas? -

Are there any 21 and over movie theaters in Las Vegas? I usually go to the Brenden Theater at the Palms but theres always that group of kids yelling or a family who brings a baby...and sure enough the baby starts crying. It really ruins the movie. In LA there are 21 and over showings where they serve alcohol and its usually a better movie watching experience. Are there any in Vegas?

No but places like Red Rock do not allow anyone under 21 to go to the movies after 9pm

Your right about LA s 21 and over theaters, they are PORN DISTRICTS.

No. The only ones I know of is the 18+ theatres, which is for adult purposes.

Las Vegass version of Hurricane Katrina? -

I am curious about something. Almost everyone knows that engineers were writing reports for about 50 years that basically said we built most of New Orleans below sea level, and if we ever get a hurricane that hits the city the place is going to flood. Then Katrina surprised us by doing exactly that.--------------------In California they ve known that sooner or later the San Andreas Fault is going to rupture, and the expectation is that there will be a 30 drop in the El Cajon pass. It will shut down the rail lines, smash interstate 15, cut the power lines, and all the fiber optic cable. Actually unlike Katrina which was based on probability, we know the San Andreas fault MUST rupture, since that is the only way to relieve the tectonic stress building along the fault line.--------------------We know that the repairs could take forever, and cost a significant fraction of a trillion dollars. Without the use of Interstate 15, the other routes from Los Angeles are hopelessly overcrowded, narrow roads that are already so overused that traffic moves at an average of 30 mph. --------------------Knowing that the city will be driven to near collapse, don t you think that they should build an alternative freeway to Los Angeles? It would go from Barstow to Palmdale and replace the tiny Antelope Valley expressway to Santa Clarita and downtown Los Angeles. -----------------There is a slight possibility that both freeways would collapse, but the Antelope Valley portion of the fault slipped in 1857. The best guess is that this portion won t slip for an additional century.--------------I think if the freeway is down for 9 months it will dwarf the current recession in Las Vegas. Can you imagine a Las Vegas where 95% of the drive in traffic from Los Angeles is gone? In addition, many people will be afraid to drive through the pass for years, because there will be television coverage of cars flying over the cliff and smashing into chasms. --------------Will we just say Why didn t anyone prepare for this decades ago?

Have you seen the desert and the I-15? If the freeway were cracked it would be at one point. You grade a detour in the desert around the broken part. Maybe a 3-4 hour job tops. Heck, half the time, the traffic will just go round the break by itself. I ve even been out there off road in a regular car. A semi can do cross country for most of it. 30 feet of vertical displacement, something that is unheard of with a quake, merely means 5-10 Caterpillars and a few earth movers. A week tops before traffic could move on dirt.As well, the San Andreas is right at LA, not way out in the desert. Where it passes under the 15 is a choke point but there are enough ways in and out of LA to get through. I have actually gotten out of the car and stared right down at the San Andreas fault. Stood right next to it. The displacement will not be 30 feet vertical. If you look at the terrain you will see it is a sideways slip there. As well, there is a freeway being built from Barstow to Palmdale. Except it runs to Mojave a few miles north of Palmdale. The 138. I have driven that road, through Kramer Junction several times. The road through there has been there a long time. But I do not know what you are talking about average speed on the 15 averaging 30 MPH. I have drivern from Vegas to LA at times in under over 3 hours. Long stretches at 100. A slow down here and there and an occasional jam as you get into San Bernardino.Besides, Vegas has the 93 to the south to Kingman where you can pick up the 10 into LA. Or north to the get the 80 into the Bay area. And there are roads to the east. To Salt Lake City or east from Kingman to Flagstall and Phoenix.Las Vegas itself is in a disaster free area. No quakes or anything else. And there are plenty of ways to get to and from the place. The I-15 is merely the shortest between LA and Vegas. So really, don t panic. Getting to Vegas from LA after a quake is a pretty low priority. And Vegas would still have all the USA to the east to get its stuff from.

Conjecture about the collapse of anything. Nevada has had all kinds of quakes for generations. But unlike LA most roads are at ground level, not on stilts.

If another freeway were built, the earthquake would destroy it too. I don t see the point.

You have to tough it out.Grew up in NJ and as a kid there was fear of nuclear attack. The entire state and region had missle bases to combat the potential for devistation. People built bomb shelters in Bergen County, New Jersey. Then there was a fear that the nuclear reactors would fail one day and would need a mass evacuation into the west. Never happened, but people prepared. Actually worked on the evacuation and rescue and recovery on the World Trade Center in Sept. 2001. Road were closes and access were shut down. Frickin Wall Street was closed for several days. Things did stop, but the world continued. We all did what we could to return to normalcy. So, I hope nothing adverse occurrs here, but if it does, we have to band together and work it out.
