I think some of the earlier comments are not completely answering the posted question. Sonoma949 was asking about the specific communities listed with high violent crime rates. Most of the answers provided skipped over this part of the question and moved right into recommending other places to live, even though he already acknowledged that the other suburbs had lower violent crime rates. Sonoma949, you are definitely right about Dallas and Fort Worth. Both are very large cities with nice neighborhoods as well as some that aren t. Arlington is also very large, but is much more suburban in character. The western (and southwestern) part, the northern portion, and the southern portion of the city have very nice areas.Balch Springs: I d look at Mesquite, which is borders Balch Springs to the north and east. Its a larger suburb with more amenities and nicer areas.Forest Hill is a very low-key suburb of Fort Worth. Its crime rate isn t awful, but it has fluctuated up and down over the years. Forest Hill isn t always in the news for violent crimes. It is the only African-American majority suburb in Tarrant County, which sadly causes it to sometimes get the label as a ghetto when demographically, it is actually more a lower middle class community. Everman is another small suburb of Fort Worth and not one of the best. Instead, I would look at nearby communities such as Kennedale, Crowley, or Mansfield.Addison has the highest violent crime rate of any suburb north of Dallas. The property crime rate is also very high. The surrounding communities of Plano, Carrollton, and Richardson have much less crime.Ennis and Terrell are part of the DFW area, but are located quite a distance from Dallas, so a commute from either community would be timely. Ennis is located south of Dallas in neighboring Ellis County. There are nicer areas in Ellis County that are safer and have better amenities like Midlothian or the county seat of Waxahachie. Terrell is located east of Dallas. Its a pretty self-sufficient place with it share of stores and a nice outlet mall situated along busy Interstate 20. Its nowhere near the worst place in DFW to live, but I do believe that there are better options closer to the more populated areas.Bedford, Hurst, and Haltom City are all inner-ring suburbs of Fort Worth in northeastern Tarrant County. Haltom City is an older community with one of the highest rates of poverty among DFW suburbs along with an elevated crime rate. Hurst and Bedford are served by decent schools despite the higher violent crime rate. However, I would prefer looking at the neighboring city of Euless, which is slightly larger and is part of the same school district. Its more diverse than Bedford or Hurst and has a much lower crime rate.Once you find a job in the area, please post another question here so that we can recommend a few communities that are generally safe and within a reasonable commute to your place of employment. This is a large metro area with over six million people and I m sure there is something here will meet your needs.I hope this helps!!!
If you land a job in the Dallas area, I d recommend the suburbs south of Dallas - Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Lancaster, Glenn Heights, Waxahaxhie, etc. The area is nice and the homes are more affordable. They are safe communities with low violent crime rates. I d look at Forney, Rowlett, and Mesquite, too. They are suburbs east of Dallas. The northern suburbs are popular, but they aren t the only nice region in the metro area.
Avoid Forest Hill, Balch Springs, and Everman. Those are typical ghetto areas. Arlington is not a city you ll want to live in for a long time, it has a very transient population. In Hurst, stay north of the Airport Freeway. Same with Bedford.
There have been many news stories about the Dallas police under reporting crime, so it is probably worse than the FBI report.Your best bet is to go North to Plano, Allen, or Frisco for lower crime and nicer neighborhoods.
If you really would like a good neighborhood, I would personally prefer:Arlington, Euless, Bedford, Irving, Carrollton, or Plano.
Irving and Plano will be the safest choice of place. For moving help you can search for professional movers at http://www.moverssearchandreviews.com
