PS: I m a 18/almost 19 year old girl, who is very weak fight wise lol
First of all, the next time someone says something about CSI, give them a withering stare and tell them that CSI is just television - it has nothing to do with real life!I live in NYC. I have lived here since I was almost 18 (came here to go to college.) I am now 50. I have seen NYC change a LOT in that amount of time. NYC used to be a much more dangerous city than it is now. Today, it s a very safe place to live. Yes, I do go out after mid-night (sometimes - today I have kids at home today and I can t go out as much as I d like.) But even when I was in college in the late 70s, when NYC was much more dangerous, it did not stop me from going out. There are some things I learned long ago that I thik are still some good rules of thumb:1) Don t walk on streets that are poorly lit and have no people on them. Late at night, walk on busier streets. In NYC, even at Midnight, there are busier streets and quieter streets. 2) Walk with the crowd at night. When you get off the subway, DON T go up the one stair no one else is going up. Walk out with everyone else. 3) Stand with other people on the subway platform. In most stations, that means standing in the middle of the platform. But where ever the crowd is, that s where you should stand. 4) Don t get on an empty subway car. Late a night, less people ride the subway. Get on a subway car with other people on it. These rules are really for late night situations. During the day, you won t have to worry about any of this - there are always tons of people around during the day. As I said, NYC is pretty safe. But you should use normal common sense. Do not leave your belongings around where you cannot see them. Keep your pocketbook closed and at your side. Don t flash a lot of money around. These are actually good rules for going any place. NYC is no different. Good luck and I hope you love it here as much as I do!
OK, first off; do us a favor, smack the next person who brings up CSI:NY. It s a TV show. It, in no way shape or form, depicts real life in the city. New York City s crime rate is about the same as Boise Idaho. there are, on average, less than 600 homicides a year, in a city of over 8 million. going out late at night is a non issue (why else does the city have that Never Sleeps nickname) IF you follow some common sense rules.1.stay in a well populated and well lit area. 2.be aware of your surroundings at all times. 3.don t leave valuable items is plain view. The subway is safe (you have to get a metrocard to ride the subway, that s the only way to get in), If you want to feel safer, ride in a car with a train crew member. the front car of all trains carries the train operator. the 5th or 6th car is where the conductor rides. (this varies by the type of car and length of train.numbered lines, always 6th carlettered lines C,J,L,M,Z always 5th8 car trains at 60 a carline G 4th car lettered lines A,B,D,E,F,N,Q,R,V,W10 car trains at 60 a car, 6th 8 car trains at 75 a car, 5th during the weekend, G M trains and a night 5 train run with just the operator.
