A little general planning will help and make better use of your time for touring since you only have a certain number of days for the trip. There is so much to see do going across country - One must force One s self to limit the side trips. I liked visiting all the spots on old Route 66, then Seeing the Grand Canyon, visiting Acoma, checking out the country around Amarillo, the Alamo in San Antonio, The NASA ctr in Houston, Elvis s home BBQ in Memphis, Maker sMark Bourbon in Ky, the Horses in Lexington KY, the Natchez Trace parkway, New Orleans--- too many good places 7 One can not see them all in one round trip -- but you can try! A credit card a very good map is very important. If you belong to a Credit Union, get the booklet for all the Atms that are on the networks for no extra fees when you withdraw cash. If you know someone who belongs to Auto Club, have them help you pickup the travel guides for states that you plan to travel thru and you could also get the triptek for day to day driving. If you are staying at motels on a tight budget, get a Motel 6 guide you can book a room on the net sometimes get the web discount 24 to 48hrs in advance.(I usually call the 800 number on my cell in the morning to hold my room for the nite since I travel w/Conan - they are dog friendly). If you are planning to travel in an RV, get a used RV park guide from someone who owns an RV for all the places across the country - alot of state county parks are prettier than spots that are just off the Interstates much cheaper. If you are camping, Auto Club has camping guides. Super Walmarts get a bad rap from city folk but they will have a lot of stuff for your needs on the road are always a safe haven for travelers. Good traveling
i went on a road trip from alaska to new york and i recommend:-extra room for souvenirs!! you will want to buy so many things and will have more than you think-a journal to write everything down-extra memory card for camera, or else you will have to go back and delete things-remember your phone charger-comfy clothes for long hours on the road-you might want a laptop to keep in touch with everyone. most campgrounds have wifithats about it, besides the obvious things like clothes and food and money and stuff.
