I ve only been to Vegas during the summer and fall, but I m thinking about going for a week in December. How does the relativly cold weather affect activity on the Strip ? What clothing should I wear and what else should I take into account ?
December is my favorite time to visit, specifically right after the 10 day long National Finals Rodeo is over (which is December 14 this year), because it s one of the least crowded times of the year. Christmas and New Years are crowded; then you have the huge 100,000 attendee Consumer Electronics Show just a few days after the New Years crowds leave. Days are fairly warm, 60s to 70s; then nights get pretty cold, 30s to 40s. Rain and snow are not likely although last year I did get snowed and rained on. Out of my 18 trips to Las Vegas, at least 10 of them have been in December and it s only rained or snowed that one time.Other than the colder than usual temperatures at night and smaller than average crowds on the strip, you won t notice anything different from other times of the year except that more shows are dark (not playing) than is usual. Their performers and dancers probably get a week or two of vacation time for Christmas. If you do get snow be extra cautious when driving or walking because most of the Las Vegas natives (which includes the taxi drivers) are not accustomed to driving in the snow. I saw multiple wrecks last year after a light dusting of snow. (Not on the strip, I was driving around in a rental car.)
It s really chilly and sometimes rainy. The hotels have the decorations up which is really nice besides the hotel themes themselves and it s less crowded which can be really niice to soak everything up and see everything and eat wherever you want without all the crowds. Anytime I ve visited in the winter, the only thing I am not able to do is swim but that s fine because I never have to wait for anything as there are less people around. Personally, I love it and it s nice to walk the strip in cold weather rather than summer scorching heat!
There will be a lot of activity in Vegas this December with the opening of CityCenter. Since Las Vegas has a desert climate, the days are mild but the nights get cold. It doesn t usually snow so you will be fine with long pants and a light jacket.http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/christmasHave fun
It does get very cold here in Dec...not sure what some of these people are talking about here saying it is just like it is in July...bull.Last year (not common though) we got 8 inches of snow. I don t know why people think that it stays sunny and warm here all year, it does NOT. Dec. is crowded with tourist and holiday shoppers. I try and stay off the roads this time of year. Bring warm clothes and have fun!
Christmas; did you know that it snows in Vegas up in the mountains just a 1/2 hour from the strip? take a look at vegasnature.com and click on the Spring Mountain Picture. We actually have a ski area. If that is not your thing just keep clicking and see where else you can go.
Vegas in December is just like Vegas in July. Tourists are losing money in the casinos and barfing in the rest rooms.
I live here. There is not much going on and it gets very cold.
normally it s not that cold
