New York City Subway trains are operated by a two person crew. The train driver (aka train operator), who operates the train and ensure the train maintain a proper speed, and the conductor, who is located in the middle section of the train, usually the fourth or fifth car.The conductor s job is to open and close the doors on the train and ensure that all doors are closed before giving the train driver the signal to proceed. His or her job also includes making station and safety announcements on board the train, as well as answering customer s questions. In the event of an emergency, either on board the train or on the platform, both the driver and/or conductor can request for emergency assistant via two way radio.I hope this infomration is very helpful.Good luck
The conductor does not operate the train. The train is operated by a motorman. The motorman is the person you see in the front of the train, and he/she is the one that operates the train. The conductor is responsible for opening the doors when the train enters the station, closing the doors when the train is ready to leave, and the conductor also announces what the stop is, what the next stop is, the trains you can transfer to, and any other messages.
They aren t.The conductor is only responsible for the safe opening and closing of doors and making sure that the passengers are all safely inside before the train begins to move. The moterman is responsible for driving the train itself. He is up front, and you usually can t see him where he sits.
