It really depends on what your idea of affordable is...I have a friend that comes into town every now and then and always stays at the Double Tree downtown...I thought it was pretty nice...enjoyed their restaurant....It also is really going to depend on exactly where in Kansas City you want to stay.
You might want to check out the Chateau Avalon, in KCK, in the general area as the raceway/Village West area. Romantic suites are pretty much their thing. They have a bunch of themed suites, some of which are admittedly cheesy, but some look nice. I believe the cost isn t that bad, either, but one man s affordable is another s outrageous.
Southmoreland on the Plaza is a unique, cozy place to stay. Very romantic. http://www.southmoreland.com/index.htmlOtherwise, just go to Priceline.com, and under hotels, type in the area where you want to stay. Then you can put in how much you want to spend, the star rating of the place you want, and see what you get. Some great deals are available. Hotwire.com might also be worth a try.
I d just try the Embassy Suites near the Plaza, that way you re right near the good nightlife and restaurant options in KC. It s not super-expensive either.
