What is the land in Louisiana like? -

I am writing a story set in the parish of Ascension for my coursework and I have no idea how to describe the area, is it green and grassy? Bare and dry? Literally any brief description would help Thank you x

It is very flat and soggy. When you walk on it, it feels springy and soft. If you dig you will probably hit water. We have to drive pilings deep into the ground before we build anything, and a lot of the cemeteries have graves above ground. There are bayous everywhere. In southern Louisiana, it rarely freezes, so the grass stays green, and the kudzu is taking over a lot of rural areas. There are beautiful cypress trees in the swamps, with knees sticking above the water so the tree s roots get air. The big oak trees have spanish moss draping from the branches, swaying in any breeze. Think of being in a hothouse...that is what it feels like and smells like here. Lush.

I live next to Ascension in Livingston parish go shopping mainly in Ascension =3In general, it can be damp. We have large rivers several canals. It rains alot in during some seasons sometimes it even floods peoples yards who live next to water sources. In the cities of Ascension its pretty typical. Southern Louisiana has lush greenery, humid air, nutrient rich soil, so most city areas typically bring in that luck have plants everywhere. They seem like other cities I ve been too but with more plant life.

flat, swampy, sinking heh

Green, grassy, lots of woods, always wet enough to squish between your toes.

grass. pine trees. flat. no hills whatsoever.

Is honolulu in anyway like new york city? -

I want to move to Honolulu. I currently live in northern new england so it will be pretty brutal for me there. I m stuck with either moving to Honolulu or New York City. I like (this will sound crazy) the traffic congestion, beeping, lots of people and high rise buildings. Obviously it would be New York that has all of those but does Honolulu have anything like that or at least something similar to that??

Honolulu is a city but it is nothing like New York City in size, scope or attitude. If you what you want is the noise and hustle of NYC, move there because you will not find that in Honolulu. In fact, transplants to Hawai i often get something known as rock fever or island fever . You are not going to be taking any roadtrips anywhere, the only way off is by plane and to the west coast of the mainland it s a five hour flight.

AlohaHonolulu has lots of traffic and can drive you crazy, we also have lots of high rise buildings and tons of people (most of them are tourists though), these are the only similarities between NYC and Honolulu. If you are looking for a fast paced environment don t move to the islands. We are very laid back and time usually is a non-issue. We don t have the evening entertainment of a mainland metro area either. From how you described what you like, I don t think Honolulu is the city for you. Hope this helps. (10 yrs Honolulu experience)

The mentality is totally different. People are very mild so you may not cope with that. The only common ground they both have are strong family ties. That is what I found from living in both cities a long time ago.

Question about Texas? -

Were thinking about moving to Tx.. Mcallen area,,, does any one know how safe it is over there??and also san antonio,,,which is better??

McAllen and San Antonio are both good places. San Antonio is a fun city to live in. I lived there for several years. All cities have saftey issues. Texas is no worse than any place else.

If you have never been to the valley then you probably won t like it. It is a world of it s own. I would say San Antonio would be the best choice.

It s the desert. But, on the plus side there is six flags fiesta texas in San Antonio. and they have, hands- down, the BEST texmex food. But it s been a few years since I ve been there.

If I had a choice, I would go with living in a town near San Antonio.

Is california a nice state to move to? -

i live in cleveland ohio and i m 24 years old. i have a bachelor degree and a master degree in finance. should i move to san diego or should i stay in cleveland or move somewhere to new york or florida?

You should move to where ever they re hiring. With a bachelor and master degree I think you can make it anywhere. I live in California, I love it. You will need a car if your thinking to move here. We have transportation but nothing like New York.

Do not move here unless you have a job already. Florida also has issues with unemployment, as bad as the Iron Belt.

You simply moved san diego? Get outta here.

Road trip from Idaho to Los Angeles in January? -

My family is taking a road trip from Boise, Idaho to southern California towards the end of next month (Jan). We are having trouble deciding which route to take. We are considering these two options... Hwy 95 Tahoe/Reno or Hwy15 SLC/Vegas. Our deciding factor will be road conditions. We are trying to plan early since we need hotel reservations along our route. Does anyone know which route is more likely to be safer?

To my way of thinking this is one of those day of decisonsI would get in touch with Caltrans http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi and see if I-80coming over Donner Pass was clear and drivable or if it was in a chains required state If it was good to go then I would route it US95S I-80W I-5SThe I-84 E I-15S route from Boise ID to Spanish Fork UT is also subject to getting hit w/some serious snowfalls So check w/ UDOT [?} firstIf the weather is good in the Sierra then a third option would be taking US 395 south from Reno to San Bernardino I m a single guy so I honestly have no idea what that precise parameters for a family traveling safely in winter are .I m sure that there are routes that I wouldn t think twice about driving that families would think twice about and then say Uh No Good luck

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

The winter is just around the corner and it means that any routes you take, there is a possibility of snowy roads encounter.I enjoy roadtrips and hitting the highways because it gives me the freedom of going anywhere I want in the country, but I don t go on a long roadtrip in the winter season.

I agree that s it a last minute decision based on the weather.Another option is also going over the mountains and taking the I-5 down. It will take longer but the only snow you would encounter would be between Boise the coast.
