Anyone got good Grand Canyon ideas? -

My girlfriend is finishing her bachelors in December and I have reserved flights to Las Vegas for us just after, but my main goal is to do something good with the Grand Canyon as it s only 4 or so hours away. I prefer to drive there (no helicopter tours from LV ) and my time frame of actually being able to be there is about 12 noon until 4 PM the next day.... has anyone had any good experiences they would recommend or vice versa. This will be in January so I know night will be cold but as far as any other details, we are both 23 and the cost isn t that big of an issue.

The basics On a good day 4 hours from a LAS to GCN is a fast trip On a winters day in a deep and dark December your trip can be easily slowed down by hitting a major snow storm from Ash Fork and on into the ParkIf you don t already have lodging in the Park the I suggest that you spend the night in Flagstaff , get up at 4:30 AM , drive to the Park on US 180 thru Valle AZ Have breakfast at the Bright Angel Lodge and then hit the trailThe upper sections of all GCNP trails tend to ice off in winterMy personal choice would be to drive out to Hermits Rest , Go downhill on the Hermit Make a left onto the connection over to Dripping SpringDo not waste your time visiting Dripping Springs properMake a right onto Boucher TrailTake Boucher out to Yuma Point....And no furtherSince it will take you twice as long to get out of the Canyon as it did to hike into it then you math look like thisIf you hit the trail at 7:00AM and plan to be back on the Rim by 4:00PM then you have 9 hours of hiking available to youBegin your uphill trip by 10:00AMYou could also do that same 3 hour downhill on the Hermit and the S.KaibabThe Grandview and the Tanner are way beyond your abilities and the BA is a shaded newbie turnpike that is covered with far too many puddles of mule whiz and piles of mule excrement for my liking Stay warm hike safely and if you don t already know the ins and outs of hypothermia then i suggest that you read up on the subject ASAP

You re gonna have to go to the south rim cause the the north rim closes for the winter. With your time frame I d suggest hiking down the Kaibab trail for awhile. You d have to come back the same way so just plan on how far you could go. The trail s 7 miles. I know I d want to be outside for most of my 4 hrs.

I m going to AZ in March to go visit my friend. We sort of planned on going on a 1 day tour at the canyon. It s supposedly a small group tour with a tour guide and it s about $130They have extended camping days, but Idk if you guys would want to be that adventurous

Watch the sunrise over the canyon. Almost a mystical experience !

Go to your favorite video rental store and rent The Canyon . I just saw it last night. It sheds a new light on the GC. Kind of eerie.
