How can I become more Hawaiian? -

My grandfather is a Native Hawaiian. But I inherited the gene that rendered me white (brown hair, blue greenish eyes, pale white skin). And I live on the mainland. How do I appear like a Hawaiian, how do I have the attitude of a Hawaiian. How do I dress like a hawaiian.(i know grass skirts and coconut bras are just a stereotype). How do I speak like a native hawaiian. What can I do to help me become more adjusted to another culture of mine?

I understand that you want to embrace whatever amount (percentage) of Hawaiian that you have in you, but don t force it.Start off small. Listen to some island music (Bob Marley, Katchafire, Natural Vibrations). Even though those are reggae and not necessarily Hawaiian, it is what we locals listen to. In addition to those, I listen to local artists like John Cruz, Sean Na auo, and Ekolu.My Hawaiian (guy) friends wear shorts, t-shirt, and slippers (which are called flip flops on the mainland).

Do listen to Hawaiian radio online, both the hawaiian language music and that just by hawaiian artists (I love IZ) - read about things happening in Hawaii - read about the history and culture, learn what it all means!See if there is an online class you can take to learn the Hawaiian language. There are many immersion schools for children in HI to help them retain their language, I bet you can learn it online somewhere.See if you can get to know more of your extended family that is perhaps still in Hawaii, if you can t travel there maybe you can penpal or email with some of them and get the older ones to talk story - tell you about life in HI who they are and why they feel the way they do.Relax, learn and live aloha - best wishes!

Be friendly, love life especially family and friends. Be respectful to your ancestors traditions, beliefs and ways. Learn what Aloha is. Learn the history of the Hawaiian Royals and People the truth . Hawaii is a place that should have been left alone by explorers. They ruined a paradise on earth. The Hawaiian People are beautiful. Above all be yourself. Do not pretend to be a Texan if you are from Oklahoma.Aloha!

You need to spend some time in the islands. Live the culture, learn the life style.This is not something you can do by listening to music or reading a book.While this method might help you fool some of your haole friends and neighbors on the mainland. No one in Hawaii would mistake you for a local until you live hear.

Thanks for all of your POSITIVE responses...If you read part one you ll see another reason WHY Im just so ready to blow this town. You got HATERS/Rich spoiled people (I could just imagine which race) like those two who don t even care about the fact that EVERYBODY s not living like them??? Maybe if you traveled to my part of town and lived my life for a day you d have something a little better to say than oh-well some people want better for themselves so they keep they stupid a**es in Chicago ! It IS NOT the BEST City to live in-The BEST CITY for any individual is just that-AN INDIVIDUAL thing-depending on your income, etc! Girl you are so right. The rich don t give a damn because they re living good so everyone else has to suffer. These Chicagoans who are in denial don t want anyone to say anything bad about Chicago to hide the truth. The truth is Chicago is a shyt hole! The mayor doesn t give a damn, just getting rich off of anyone he can. You will never here any of these Chicago locals who are living in the clouds admit this though. Ok, you can love your city but at least admit the bad things about it. Actually living in Chicago is lowering your standards because you have no voice and your being scammed and ripped off every step of the way.

Am i allow to park on target on allstate arena on chicago? -

im going to aventura s concert tomorrow and i dont wanna pay for parking, i just wonder if am i allow to park on target parking that is right next to the allstate arena on chicago ?

They have police watching to make sure you don t park there, and if you do, you will wish that you paid for parking at Allstate. It will cost you much more for the tow, and to get your car released, plus the parking ticket.

I suggest to take public transportation in any way. Or, car pooling if u r going with bunch of guys. Then, u can split for the cost of parking. Parking violation is pretty tough here. Specially the city of Chicago is money hungry. They will fine you left right. Have lots of fun at the concert.
