Is there usually snow around on christmas day in Chicago? -

Is there often snow on the ground (even a little bit) on christmas day or the days before christmas?

Historically, according to the local meteorologists, there is a 42% chance of any Chicago Christmas being snowy. So that s almost 6 out of 10 that are not snowy here in Chicago..

Its always a tossup, as the second person said- its about a 50percent shot. At this point though, we can almost forecast the weather since its just over a week away- and its looking like it will be a white Christmas for the area. How white, remains to be seen, but some snow is possible- a lot isnt out yet either. (Tuesday/Wednesday storm).

Usually, yes there is.

usually.

yes. December is always full of snow.

yes, yes there is. I heard this christmas eve its supposted to snow.

Where is the closest place to find snow near Florida? -

were planning on taking a trip this christmas to see snow, were thinking somewhere in the Apps, but im not sure if it snows there. Does it usually snow in Tennesse, NC, or SC? and if there are ski resorts in the apps do you have to lodge at the resort or can you just choose to ski, is there any places that have free skiing...i honestly just want to see snow. so whatever you reccomend would be helpful !thank you :)

SC gets snow sometimes, but NC has a couple ski areas, they ll definitely have snow. You don t have to lodge there, you can just go ski for the day and stay wherever you want. The only free skiing is if you hike up a mountain yourself, but of course you need gear anyways, and rentals also cost money. You should ski or board for the day, get a lesson (there are lesson+rental+lift ticket packages). You ll have a blast

well its not close but MINNESOTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we have lots and lots of snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! an endless supply!!!!!!!!!!!!! Report Abuse

Fun things to do in the los feliz/silver lake area besides griffith park? -

There is another park there called Barnsdall Park. Also Vermont or Hillcrest Avenue above Hollywood Boulevard has alot of interesting shops. There are two old-style movie theatres there on Vermont and another where Sunset and Hollywood boulevard(s) meet. I hope Mondo Video A-Go-Go is still there at Heliotrope and Melrose avenues.

WHAT TO DO IN HOLLYWOOD CA. ? -

WHAT ARE SOME FUN FAMILY THINGS TO DO IN HOLLYWOOD A. OR IN THAT AREA THATS KINDA CHEAP? OR FREE

There is not really all that much in hollywood except the walk of fame and the Chinese theater.. Hollywood is filled with tacky shops, wannabe actors and homeless bums hassling you for change. The only decent restaurent is Musso and Frank s, but it is a little pricey. the rest are pizza and hamburger joints that are very expensive, and nothing more than cardboard with ketchup .It s not really a family friendly atmosphere , my opinion of courseBut i would recommend the Getty Museum nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains Its free except there is a parking charge. Its been 2 years since i was there I forget the exact charge, but its about 10 dollars.

There are literally hundreds of things to do here in LA. Here is my list of must sees. Visit as many as you have time for.:Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors cant be wrong. #1 Destination. Universal Studios: A theme park that grew out of a studio tour. #2 Destination.Even if you dont visit Disneyland or Universal Studios Tour, Downtown Disney District and Universal City Walk are very fun places to visit for shopping and eating. And theyre free to visit. Hollywood: Enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Chinese Theatre and more. You can see a lot for free. The Hollywood Highland complex has lots of shops and restaurants, and the Kodak Theater. The El Capitan theater, right across the street, is where Disney shows their movies. And the Hollywood Bowl is a GREAT place to listen to concerts outdoors. Olvera Street/Union Station: Olvera Street is the birthplace of LA, and it emphasizes our Mexican heritage. In addition to the Avila Adobe (oldest building in LA), you can eat at some pretty good Mexican Restaurants, do a little shopping, and taste a churro. If you dont want to go to Tijuana, this is as close as it gets without going there. Union Station has great architecture from a bygone age. Also, you are 2 blocks from Phillippes (see below).Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed with exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all came to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.Venice Beach: Los Angeles kitsch and over-the-top culture at its best. Here you ll find Muscle Beach, street performers and tacky shops galore. Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after dark, when it gets a little TOO interesting for my taste. Santa Monica: Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies. After visiting the pier, you can ride a bike south a couple miles to Venice Beach. Sunset Boulevard began as a route between the stars posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the ocean, passing through the Sunset Strip on its way.Farmers Market and The Grove - A new shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles landmark, It is right next to CBS, so walk across the lot to see if they are taping The Price is Right . You might even get in.Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.Getty Museum - The Getty s architecture is so beautiful that it keeps me fascinated. No matter whether you like their art, architecture, or view better, the Getty is sure to please. Free.Attend a TV taping - You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, tvtix.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It s very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the Tonight show. Check the NBC web site for all the details there.Places to eat:In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.Pinks Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. You might even see a celebrity. Maybe.Tommys Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. The original location is at Beverly Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.Canters Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly Melrose. Near CBS, you might spot a celebrity.Phillippes: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station and Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, its hot.Titos Tacos: Voted best tacos in LA, even though its in Culver City. The Pantry: Corner of Figueroa and 9th, downtown. Huge portions, they never close, GREAT steak and eggs.Places to Stay:Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. In Hollywood, I recommend the Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity Hotel, or Holiday Inn Walk of Fame, all near Hollywood and Highland. Another one is the Best Western Sunset Plaza. In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced. In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. There is also a nice place in Burbank called the Best Western Media Center, very close to Warner, NBC, and Universal Studios.Places to Shop:Third Street Promenade, Santa MonicaThe Grove, Los AngelesAmericana @ Brand, GlendaleBeverly Center, Los AngelesCitadel Outlets, CommerceBrea Mall, BreaThe Block at Orange, OrangeSouth Coast Plaza, Costa MesaFashion Island, Newport BeachSantee Alley, Los Angeles

Ive been there. I was only like 13. But we walked around hollywood blvd had a blast lol!

Toll costs if Im traveling from New Hampshire to South Carolina? -

Hi, In january, I m going to be traveling from New Hampshire, to South Carolina to see my boyfriend graduate from boot camp, and I was wondering if anyone knew how much it would cost in tolls? If anyone has an idea of what it would be, please let me know. thanks! :)

You will only be passing through three toll states, and that is New Jersey I-95 NJ Turnpike, I-95 in Delaware and I-95 in Maryland. I think there may be tolls in Connecticut but not sure. You ll be traveling the entire length of the NJ Turnpike, so the cost will be $9.05.See here: http://www.state.nj.us/turnpike/Class1Cars2008.htmThe cost in Delaware is $4.00http://www.deldot.gov/public.ejs?command=PublicTollRateI95You will also have to take the Fort McHenry Tunnel through Baltimore which is $2.00There s also various other tolls in Maryland, but I m not sure of the location of them all, they seem to be scattered all over. It would only be a few cents I think.http://www.mdta.maryland.gov/TollRates/jfk.htmlThe total will be about $15.05, but it might be more, so bring about $20 in change.

Well it depends on how you go, of course. You may have the $2 toll on I-95 in New Hampshire. Most people, take 495 west to the Mass Pike to 84 west to 91 south back to 95, instead of 95 through Rhode Island because it s much shorter. The toll is $1.10In New York, you ll have two tolls coming home only $8 at the George Washington Bridge and $1 on the New England Thruway. They re both northbound only.Jersey Turnpike is $9.05 end to end with cash, although you can get an off-peak discount with EZ Pass.Delaware Memorial Bridge is $3, but only going south.Delaware Turnpike is $4.00 both ways.In upper Maryland, there is a $5.00 toll, but only going north. And your last toll will be the tunnel in Baltimore which is $2.Then you re toll free the rest of the way.http://www.i95exitguide.com/tolls/index.http://www.massdot.net/user-cgi/tollcalc

Should I live in Manhattan or New Jersey? -

Hello..I m moving to NYC from TN for a new job and trying to decide whether to live in NYC or across the river in NJ. The facts: 1) I am in mid-thirties and single. and I can afford about $1800 - $2000 for rent.2) My work is in the midtown west area on 11th ave.3) I have a nice car here in TN, but I m willing to sell it if needed.I explored places in the midtown west neighborhood, and was able to find a clean 1br for $1900 (no dishwasher/laundry) - 10 min walk to work. Across the river, in Weehawken,NJ (20 min bus from work), I was able to find a huge 2 br apt for $1600 with city views (brand new kitchen etc. and free parking)I like to go out twice a week, and would like to enjoy the activities in NYC. I m torn between living the city life in NYC and the space/comfort of NJ. Thoughts? Experiences?

I agree - this is a tough one, but will try to help.Live in NYC (past resident)1-high rent, barely/no amenities/no space. 2-no need for a car (but don t let your driver s license expire. Keep renewing. You could decide in the future to move to another state, and all you d have to do is take the written test. That s what I did).3-easy access to museums, theature, etc.4-public transportation 5-neighborhood may be noisy w/car traffic (especially if it s near the Lincoln tunnel approach). Your view may be other buildings, or rooftops.6-high sales taxLive in NJ (I m a resident)1-lower rent (Weehawken) and you get more for your $$-especially free parking/dishwasher/laundry-unheard of in some NYC apts.2-Factor in commuting costs, i.e. monthly bus ticket via NJ Transit. Monthly ticket s the best way.3-Much quieter neighborhood-with a nice, peaceful view.4-Cheaper sales taxWould it be possible for you to visit the areas and check out the apts. you re considering moving into in NYC/Weehawken first? That would give you an idea of what you re in for.Personally? I d grab the Weehawken NJ apt. sight unseen, because it includes the dishwasher/laundry/free parking, plus bus service to NYC is pretty regular (and you could explore Hoboken, that s a little south of Weehawken; also in Jersey City, there s the Newport Center mall).Whatever your decision - all the best in your new job.

Congratulations on the new job! I would choose living in Weehawken, so you can keep your car and explore the rest of what NJ has to offer. As some one mentioned you can explore Hoboken, which has a great bar scene and plenty of great restaurants. Buses run all night long to and from Manhattan and should cost you no more than 3$ each way.You also pay less sales tax in NJ.Feel free to e-mail me if you have anymore questions or concerns.

you will probably find it a lot more convenient to live in manhattan, if you can afford it and its nice, then take it, unless you really want the comfort of laundry and free parking then choose new jersey, but keep in mind that the difference is in the transportation costs and probably in not being able to walk to places like the supermarket.

You might get bored in NJ...If I was you I would check out Queens or Brooklyn, its only a short subway ride from manhattan. There s more to do and the prices are more reasonable then Manhattan. Some good neighboorhoods in Queens are Astoria, Bay Side, Whitestone

Now that s a tough one

Is everything still business as usual on Easter Sunday in Vegas? -

I m going to Vegas for Spring break in April with a couple of my friends. It just so happens that Easter Sunday falls smack dab in the middle of our vacation. I have been to Vegas before, so I know everything is pretty much open almost all of the time, but we wanted to do a couple things like Rehab s pool party Sunday (at the Hard Rock), and Sunday night Industry night at the Bank nightclub (at the Bellagio). I m not sure if they ll be having things like this on Easter day. Does anyone know if everything is on usual schedules for Easter? Or are we going to have to spend the day pretty much just laying around the hotel that day?

24/7 and no issue. pool in easter as well. you will love it here.

Everything is open as usual. So far as the pool parties I am not sure when they actually open. However everything else is open as if it was a regular day. They may raise the price of the food that day at all the buffets though.

Weather should be perfect for laying around the pool. You can contact each hotel via email for information about what activities they are projecting.

I m pretty sure its business as usual on the strip.

Best things to do in Manhattan? -

Bringing wife for first time to New York. Looking for something other than Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Museum of Natural History, Trade Center Site, Central Park unless you can bring up something cool there that most travelers don t know.

I would certainly go see a Broadway show. Tickets are cheap now. You can either go to Tickets, Tickets, Tickets, in the middle of Times Square OR if there is a specific show you would like to see you can go straight to their box office and see what they have. They are all wonderful and it s certainly something to see. Good luck!

How about the John Lennon memoria in Central Park called Strawberry Fields at the W. 72nd St. entrance? How about a ride on the famous Staten Island ferry?

Visit The Bronx

Bus tours are fun. Try one of these buses..http://www.newyorksightseeing.com/http://www.citysightsny.com/

What area of Virginia is Good to Move to? -

Im coming from NY I want to move to VA. What is a good safe area with cheap rent and jobs and good schools? Thanks!

The Shenandoah Valley. The climate is cool and picturesque, not as sweltering as coastal VA. The city of Harrisonburg is right in the middle, a prosperous little college town of about 40,000 souls.

Two areas I d recommend1. Anywhere in or near Northern Virginia. Fredericksburg, Mansassas, Culpeper or Charlottesville ... these places are relatively affordable and have great school systems. 2. Norfolk / Chesapeake / Hampton Roads area. I m not sure about the schools here but I d assume they d be ok. Crime is low, just avoid some areas in VA Beach and Norfolk.

At dmv why do i have to wait 30 days to take my road skills drivnig test? im confused? -

ok first of all im 19 and i have never had a license before i drove twice but i was with someone so it doesnt count [to me] ok help me they said if i pass my knowledge quiz exam i have to wait 30 days before i take the road skills driving test and i have to have my own car!! i dont get it if you have to wait 30 days to take the road skills test and you do not have a car then they must give you a temporary license for 30 days right? p.s im from virginia they said if i pass my knowledge exam i have to wait 30 days to take a road skills test driving around the dmv lot!!!!!!

Because you are 19 you only have to wait 30 days. If you pass the knowledge exam you will receive a learner s license. Meaning that you will be only allowed to drive with someone 21 or older or a relative that holds a valid driver s license. If you were younger than 19 you would have to hold the learners license for 9 months. After you have held your learners for 30 days you can go to DMV and take the road test. If you pass, they will give you your license.Pass Knowledge Exam - Get Learners licensePass Road Test - Get driver s license

Maybe they just have a lot of people ahead of you to take the test. I don t think they would give you a temp. license BEFORE you take the road skills test.

Salary for cocktail waitress in las vegas? -

let s say a cocktail waitress works at the wynn, bellagio, city center, rio, etc. (the 4,5 star hotels) during day shift, what s the average they make a day if they work full time? I ve researched and people only gave bullcrap they make a lot kind of answers. I can tell. It doesn t sound like a high positioning job, but they make so much money. Every round they make about 10, 12 dollars and God knows how many people tip and how much they tip. Can anyone give me an approximation (please don t just make up a number, i want real data) of how much they make (min. wage included)? also, do they pull tips like the dealers do? how much are they taxed (i mean, the tips are cash, they can write a lower than actual number when reporting income and when govt. tax them)?i ve heard $75,000-$100,000, i ve heard some good ones make over 100k/yr, etc. I know it all depends, but I just want to know an approximation. a lot of people say beauty is an advantage and that i should go for it (and that my college degree is not worth as much as a cocktail waitress to be honest. as someone with a four yr degree and credential, i don t even make over 40k a year and pay super heavy taxes), but look at the old, ugly waitress (sorry but not to be mean) in caesars palace! it s a 5 star, world renown hotel yet...and i heard they make big bucks. i don t know. I hope someone in this field can answer my question. thanks

You are asking a question that has a lot of variables. Location, time, day has a lot to do with the amount they make. I overheard two casino executives talking. They commented that their girls were averaging $60K. This was an off strip locals casino. Several years ago there was a cable reality show called American Casino which took place at Green Valley Ranch. The High Rollers Area hostess make over $400k per year. She did work over 80 hrs a week because she didn t want anyone else getting her tips. That was the reason they even mentioned the amount. So there is a range.and you have to realize that working weekends on the strip at a major casino, being beautiful doesn t hurt, will net you the most amount of tips.

unemployment is las vegas in over 13 per cent. in good times one could do very well.now the casinos are half empty. i would venture to say 30 to 40 thousand dollarsa year under the current economic conditions. when the economy improvesi feel you could make considerably more.

waitress in the Union Hotels make 10.75 an hour Salary in the Union Hotels. As far as making bank, the ones in the pit area, or the ones in the High limit area do make a good tips. However, the more you make the more you are taxes. All tip position in the casinos are taxed by the IRS on top of their salary. Most are taxed about 7 $ per hour more than then normal tax on their salary.

There are a lot of things to consider here.It s true that a handful of the senior models that work at Wynn, Bellagio and Venetian (and yes, modeling experience is a job REQUIREMENT, along with several years of bartending, for most high-end cocktailing positions in Vegas), who work regular 6pm-4am shifts Thur-Sun in the high-limit areas, might have hit 6 figures in a good year. But the reality is that MOST cocktail waitresses in town - i.e. the 1000s of women like you who came out here to get rich and are now working weekday afternoons at Excalibur, Luxor, Monte Carlo, Planet Hollywood, Bally s, Flamingo, Harrah s, Imperial Palace, Riviera, Orleans, Sunset Station, Cannery, etc., etc. etc. were probably averaging in the mid 50k range a couple years ago and are probably averaging 35k-40k now.So really, the ugly old waitress in Caesars Palace is not making more than you are now, and she is going to make less and less each coming year until she is forced to retire because she no longer meets the appearance standard. Is that really a career path you want to start on?

What would it be like for me to go to college in Hawaii? -

I know it will be expensive. I want to go to U of H at Manoa. What is it like?

UH (what we students call it for short), is just like any other campus you ll find on the mainland, just in a different location with a different atmosphere (a student from LA said that he likes it better here because it s very laid back). By the way, being laid back doesn t mean that we don t care about our education. We just have a different way of approaching life. What I LOVE about UH are the professors. There are a lot of knowledgeable and fun professors in many departments, especially in English (which is my major). I don t have a single complaint about any of my professors. (But then again, I do use ratemyprofessors.com to choose them, well a few). The food s good, and there are plenty of places to eat on campus such as Subway, Taco Bell, Paradise Palms, and Bale.UH is (believe it or not), much smaller than majority of universities up on the mainland, but everything is still spread out. I walk every Monday and Wednesday to the Hawaiian Studies building, which is the farthest building on campus, near the dorms. But I like the walking. (There are free university shuttles that will take you to wherever you need to go, by the way).If you go into any science field, you re in luck because UH is a research-based university. In addition, the music program is good, along with the business and English departments.UH is in Manoa Valley, so it does rain. I suggest you invest in an umbrella and jacket. My entire family (including my aunties and uncles), went to UH. It is a public university but the price is low compared to paying $50,000 to attend a university on the mainland. No way. What we residents (and even non-residents) pay is nowhere near that much. Spring 09 residents paid around $6,000 (which included housing and meal plans), while non-residents paid around $12,000 (which included housing and meal plans). To close my very long answer (which probably went off the mark a little), I think you ll like UH. There are a lot of mainland students, and even international students too.

I went to grad school at UHM for four years. I ve also been involved with private, public, community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities in Hawaii and in North America, as a student, teacher, or visitor.Honestly, you could get a better education more cheaply at dozens, if not hundreds of colleges and universities in North America. Parking would be much easier, and there would be a much livelier campus life. Manoa is a commuter campus. You find students sleeping in odd places in the morning because they got up very early to drive in from the other side of the island before traffic got really bad. And by 4:30, the campus resembles a ghost town, but you still have to pay for parking. If I had a son or daughter who wanted to go to UHM, I d let them if they had a really good reason. For example, if they wanted to study a specific subject for which Manoa is the best place to study. There are some of those: Hawaiian, Ilokano, astronomy, oceanography, for example. I would let them if we couldn t afford the airfare, or if they just could not bear to be that far from friends and family, local food, their halau (hula school), outrigger canoe club, or favorite surf break. Would I recommend undergraduate study at Manoa or another local campus for someone who was not from Hawaii? Probably not.

Where can you work in Juneau, ak when your 14? -

get a paper route, shovel snow, rake leaves, baby sit. Save your money and invest it. there is no age limit on how old you have to be to invest. Though on some paperwork your parents might have to sign for you.

I think in the summer time there is a lot more you can do than during the school year.In summer you can help with lodges or restaurants for travelers, they hire a lot of summer staff. Now? Probably try grocery stores, fast food, retail stores in the mall, fundraising for a good cause, maybe establish your own cause and fund it, like do something for elderly or cancer patients in the Juneau community.use your talents. Make art or play music or sing

Federal law however, requires a work permit for anyone under 16.
