Portland is a remarkable place. lots of energy there. i am in portland All the time. I live just an hour away in Seaside. but during the summer i live there with my girlfriend and i stay at our house all the time through out the week. Yes we both are still in high school, she does to a portland high school. as i go to seaside high school.as for the environment, its unpredictable. we get rain, thunder, sunshine everything pretty much can happen in one day. so its unpredictable. Portland is big also, easy to get lost when your driving but thats when your downtown mainly. but there is also tons of shopping places, so thats a plus.
It used to be...we are over run my out of staters. Cost of everything has gone way up, bad economy has made it worse. The beautiful trees and greenery we are known for in the Pacific NW is disappearing before our eyes due to all the new housing, over crowded schools ect. Sorry. It s just what I have seen over my 40plus years living here. Im a native.
If you have money, you will be treated with respect. If you don t have money, you will be ignored by the people who do. Portland is a city of two diverse economic groups. Either you are dirt poor or you have money. The two groups don t mix. . The people with money ignore and disdain the poor. The poor join gangs for companionship and a sense of belonging, and as a way of getting the things they are denied by the people who have money. Portland has a few organizations to help the poor, but they are under staffed and mostly without funds to provide any services. The people with money deny or refuse to recognize they have a problem that breeds crime and gangs.Oregon boast of the most homeless people of any state, has the second highest unemployment of all the states in the nation, and when all taxes and surcharges are combined, has the highest state tax rate of all the states. Many of Portland s public schools do not meet federal education standards.Oregons schools are financed by the state general fund, so the amount of money each school district receives depends on the number of students they have enrolled. You would have to be dead not to be accepted in an Oregon School. On the opposite side of the coin, Portland has the best public transportation system in the U.S. Other cities come to Portland to learn how to do it right. Portland also has a lot of civic activities and nice gardens / parks. Portland thinks of itself as an Environmentally Conscious City and encourages Green activities. In summation, there is good and bad in Portland just like in Bakersfield. How you are perceived depends on whether you work and get money, or join a gang and expect everyone to hand you the things they worked to get.
Diesel Fitness Address: 1755 Mt Hood Ave, Woodburn, OR 97071 Phone: (503) 981-8557 Email this Business Listing Maves Martial Arts Address: 14602 NE Fourth Plain Rd, Vancouver, WA 98682 Phone: (360) 896-6586 Address: 3315 NE 112th Ave, Vancouver, WA 98682 Phone: (360) 772-3312 I found nothing in Portland, but Vancouver is just across the river and Woodburn is about 20-30 minutes south on I-5I live in Oregon City, about 30 minutes from downtown Portland, I can say I like the people here, they are friendly for the most part and generally helpful. The schools here are nice and unless you are in big trouble with the law or not an American citizen they will allow you to go to school here. Friends are easily made here, do your best to avoid the gangs though. They only cause trouble as there is not much else they can do. They like to bring new people in so they can cause more trouble, but it will only land you in jail or dead. The gangs here are stupid anyhow, of course most gangs are just stupid. If you have free time there are many places looking for volunteers which leads to a better future, also there are many jobs in the fast food industry, not many other jobs around this area at the moment though. Also, colleges are easy to get into and affordable. So, if you can not get into the schools for some reason, simply go take your GED courses at the college, Mt, Hood and Clackamas Community College are both good schools and both offer affordable GED classes along with being able to help you get financial assitance if you need it.
