How often is Highway 50 closed going from Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe, CA? -

We are going to Tahoe this weekend but we can t leave until tomorrow morning because my husband has to work tonight till midnight. I know there is a storm coming in tomorrow and they are calling for ridge gusts up to 100 MPH. I have chains but I am worried about them closing the roads anyway. Also how likely are the winds over Echo Summit to blow the van around? That hill looks scary when its sunny outside!

It really does not close all that often, that said they will hold traffic for avalanche control if the snow gets too heavy.Right now there are chain controls from Twin Bridges to Myers, which is not that far. This is supposed to be a warm storm so the snow level should remain above 5000 or so.Here is a link to Caltrans to get updated road information.http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgiYou can also call 1-800-427-7623 and get the same information. It is a pretty hairy drive going over the summit, just take your time and watch out for other idiots and you will be just fine.

Great I am glad to hear you had a safe trip Report Abuse

I hate this drive in the bad weather. Good luck to you. Take your time. I have been there when the road is closed and had to wait in line for it to open. Glad we were in our motorhome. Comfortable wait. If they close the roads, the CHP is anxious to get them back open when it is safe. Cal Trans has a road info hotline: 1-800.427.7623

I won t repeat the same info the others have already given, but there is really only 2 sections of that road I d imagine you would be nervous around generally, and they are both short lived. Just take it slow and enjoy the drive!

So im in Oxnard California and i need a place to live? -

I have no money, no car, nothing i just moved out here and i need some advice, i have nothing, and im looking for everything, and im willing to do anything where can i post stuff to find someone to let me stay with them other then craigslist ive already done that

So you re basically a homeless girl on the street?Get a credit card.Book a flight back to where you came from.Get a job.

You can move to Seattle or Dallas where they have more job opportunities than here.Sorry. California is no longer the land of opportunity like it once used to be.

I thought this was just a road trip. What happened to your friends? And whose bright idea was it to move here?If you had asked us before, we would have told you not to come out here without skills, money, and a plan. Here s my stock answer:Most people who ask this question are unprepared, unrealistic, with no money, no experience, no skills, (no visa), and no plan.If you are outside the United States, you will need a visa. The nice folks in the immigration forum can help you with that.Next, you need a plan: First item on the agenda is rent. A decent 1BR apartment in LA currently goes for $1200, give or take. Nicer areas and areas closer to the beach are much higher. Don t expect to move to Santa Monica and get an apartment on the beach for that much. Or Toluca Lake, or Beverly Hills. Next, you will need a car. Los Angeles is VERY spread out, and train service is extremely limited. If you don t have a car, you will have to take a bus, which takes 3 times longer to get anywhere than a car. All told, it generally takes about $3,000 per month to live here. If you don t have a job that pays that much or skills that can get you that kind of job, stay where you are. If you are unskilled and work for minimum wage (or for tips like bartending or waiting tables), you ll only make about $1200 per month. And speaking of jobs, they are rather hard to come by now. College grads seeking employment are having a very tough time of it right now, since the job market is flooded with experienced people who were laid off. Unemployment is over 12% right now. Not exactly the kind of job market you want to move into. Finally, you will need money. Landlords want first month s rent and a security deposit up front. You ll need money for food, transportation, utilities, etc. The consensus in this forum is that you need about $7500 to start out.So there s your plan. And please don t tell us that you have dreams of being an actor or singer. That sets off another alarm. We already have a million (literally) wannabe actors in this town. Dont even get me started.Best advice I can give you is to catch the next plane back to Florida. As Jeff Probst says, I got nothing for you .

Do you know of the best Farallon Island tour off san francisco is,? -

hi,im looking to book a trip as a christmas present for my fiance there is a lot of tours but im not sure which one is the best to go for.if you could help that would be brilliant thanks for your help

The general public is not allowed on the Farallon islands as far as I know. Check with the Audubon society on this one for the Farallon islands are highly restricted and the Audubon society may be the only way to get onto the islands.

Is it worthy to do tourist in Miami on Christmas? Any special interest for the winter season? -

Hello! We are thinking to do tourism this Christmas. Is it worthy to go to Florida. Any recommendation? Thanks in advance.

Besides the fact that it will probably be around 80 degrees each day over the Christmas holidays and the beaches are looking great, here s a couple of websites that provide a list of events in the Miami area. Some are related to the holidays.http://www.miamiandbeaches.com/visitors/http://miami.eventguide.com/

My friends and I want to go to the city to celebrate 2010 but were between 18-20 years old. I see ads for Eden Downtown on all New Years Eve parties in NYC. I was wondering if this place is a good idea to go to. Like how is the scene and if its worth going to.

hahaha go to google

A few of my friends went to the Eden new years party last year and they said it was awesome! Music was great, club is hot and it is the perfect place for 18+ for New Year s Eve. they got their tickets at http://newyearsplans.com/nyc-eden.htmlThe long wait is over! Is there a train that goes to canal street in nyc? -

Sure, several of them depending on the day of week and time of day. The 6, J, N and Q make a Canal Street stop at any time, the R always except late night, the M and W always except weekends, the Z only during rush hour peaks, and the 4 late night only. Here s the MTA subway page for the Canal Street station:http://mta.info/nyct/maps/connect-canal.I just noticed that it doesn t list the 4, but you can see on the 4 line page that it does make that stop during the late night hours:http://mta.info/nyct/service/fourline.ht

Jay s answer is perfect if you are going to the east side of Canal Street, near Chinatown. If, for any reason, you want to visit the west side of Canal Street near the Holland Tunnel, you can also take the A, C, or E train to Canal Street (lets off near 6th Avenue).

There sure is.If you want to go on the West end of Canal St (it s right near the Holland Tunnel and 6th avenue), the A,C and E stop at Canal St.If you want to go to the East end of Canal St, you can take the N,Q,R, or W, the 6 ( the 4 stops at Canal St at night) and the J,M and Z also stop at Canal St.

Bus to woodbury commons? -

We went to Woodbury commons from Manhattan in May when we were there on holiday from Scotland. we purchased tickets previous to us leaving Scotland and redeemed them in Madamme teussauds, which gave us directions. We left from Port Authority bus station and we got the bus from there, it is quite a long bus journey, but it drops you off right at the door of the outlet mall, and when you are ready to go back, the bus stop is right there and easily accessible. We found this a great service and it makes Woodbury commons easy to get to.Hope this helps.

The link below is a special offer from Short Line Bus, which is provide daily service between the city and Woodbury Common.Good luckNative New Yorker

What are the best things to do in New York city that are not expensive.? -

The link below can help u. Good luck!

- myopenbar.com for free drinks specials around town- Places like Alligator Lounge, Crocodile Lounge (both give you a free pizza when you purchase a drink). Rudy s Bar in midtown has cheap drinks and gives free hot dogs.- A lot of museums have free/pay as you wish nights. The Whitney has this on Friday from 6-9, I think some other museums have this as well. The Bronx Zoo is free on one day of the week (Tuesday, maybe? I don t know, google it). They are usually more crowded on these days, but it s free so you can t really complain.- Check listings in magazines like Time Out New York. There are free events going on here all the time, like author readings, museum events, etc. - Pick a new neighborhood you haven t been to and go exploring. - The Staten Island Ferry is free and it s a pretty ride.I m sure you can find plenty of other free or cheap things if you look around a little. It s an expensive city but there are so many things going on that if you look around a bit you can find something inexpensive.

You can try Live Band Karaoke at Arlene s Grocery in the Lower East Side on Monday nights. There is no cover beers are $6-7 dollars if you need a little liquid encouragement. Check out the website below for more information.Enjoy NY!!!

Explore New York on $9.99 (not including bus/rail fare) per day and still have fun.http://www.nyc.gov/html/nycmg/nyctvod/ht

Visit Central Park and museums. You can take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry, which is free. You can take a walking on the Brooklyn Bridge, which cost nothing.Good luck

What is the best quot;boat ride tourquot; in Orlando and Miami areas? -

I would like to see wild animals and Celebrtity houses! Is it necessary to book in advance or its ok to go there directly book.Thank you!

I ve visited both areas and you ll find plenty of excellent boat tours in Miami. Some cover the Miami area, while others go to the Everglades. The Go Miami Tour on Biscayne Bay is a good one. It s very scenic and will see some celebrity homes. It s always best to make a reservation in advance to make sure you have a seat. The tour is 1 1/2 hours long and has many departure times to choose from. Tour guides are informative and can answer all of your questions. Here are some links for more information:http://gomiami.about.com/od/guidedtours/http://www.miamitours.us/tours/tourType.http://www.partner.viator.com/en/2511/Mihttp://airboatusa.comhttp://www.gotobus.com/cs/c1178/boatrideOrlando isn t known for boating tours and sightseeing cruises. There is a tour company that does airboat rides in the Orlando area. They are called Boggy Creek Airboats. Here is the link:http://www.bcairboats.com

Best Miami Boat Ride Tour with Celebrity Homes is out of Bayside Marketplace and you do not need a reservation, you can buy your ticket at the booth. However this is about a 1-1/2 hour boat ride with lots of people onboard. If you are looking for something a bit more private and luxurious, try chartering a yacht. My recommendation would be Yacht Charters in Miami. They offer several yachts with affordable prices, some even include jet ski. Check them out online!
