Christamas-themed town? Sorry, but Santa s Village closed down many years ago. LOLAnyways, how about Solvang? Cute little Danish town in Santa Barbara County, about 2.5-3 hours from LA, depending on traffic. Lots of little shops, and things to try. Definitely try an abelskiver, a sugar-dusted, fruit-filled pastry. In fact, ANY pastry in just about any of the shops will be delicious. But it s just fun to order an AY-bell-skee-ver (accent on the first syllable, slight accent on the third). Another option is Pismo Beach. Nice little beach town. Best clam chowder is at Splash Cafe right there by the pier, you can t miss it. Just look for the line of people. Don t let it intimidate you, it moves quickly. Get some chowder in a sourdough bread bowl- the BEST. Lots of little beach and surf shops here. If you head south, San Diego is a great day trip. Eat lunch at Anthony s, it s right on the bay with great views. Visit Old Town San Diego or the gaslamp district. Wanna have a lot of fun? Take the train so San Diego! No traffic, and you can relax and enjoy the scenery.
Ummm why not try Sequoia National Park? It is beautiful and I am sure is full of snow right now... just make sure to wear snow tires or snow chains or else they may not let you through...
For some solitude, my daughter and I like to drive out for a circumnavigation of the Salton Sea. About a 300 mile day trip over all from Orange County. Make sure yous ee the beach at Bombay Beach.
