What do people in south Arizona wear in the winter? -

I m from Michigan and visiting Arizona for Christmas (Phoenix and Tuscan). What clothes should I bring? Do they wear shorts because it s warm, or do people usually wear pants anyway because shorts are out of season?

tucson is colder than phoenix... I can t stand anything below about 70 so I wear sneakers or boots, long pants (which I wear all year long) and a jacket or two dependent on the time of day. The last few days have been nice with highs around 68 however, just a week or so ago, is was hitting 30-38 degrees in the morning and not going above about 48-50 degrees all day. Some people do wear shorts and flip flops, its really about how much cold you can take. If I were you, I would pack both because you are from michigan and therefore can stand the colder weather better than people like me who would likely freeze all the way through within about 5 minutes of landing. (But i would pack a little more in the way of lighter items considering how cold it gets in michigan compaired to arizona.)If your going to tuscon, remember it is a bit more chilly up there than phoenix is.But let me put it to you this way, I had a formal event to attend to today and was in a tank top, thin, knee length dress and heels with string sized straps, no jacket and was only slightly chilled, but not cold.

jeans, long pants, and layers of clothes. I doubt that you ll want to wear shorts - it has nothing to do with being out of season, it has to do with being cold. If you are comfortable wearing shorts in the winter out here then do it. No one really cares. They ll just know you re a tourist from the East!

NO shorts. moved here from Illinois a year ago. think us midwesterners are used to it being cold in winter, so natural reaction is 50-60degrees is warm. it is nice, but not nice enough for shorts. go with the long pants. short sleeve shirts are doable during the day. but, you will definitely need a jacket/sweatshirt when the sun goes down early morning. have fun in AZ happy holidays!

In the winter, the high is usually around 62-63, and the low about 40, but it can dip quite a bit. we ve had days at 54 and nights at 31. Yes, you should probably bring pants and a hoodie, or jacket, whatever floats your boat..

I m from Michigan too.Just don t bring any summer clothes..It s pretty chilly out at night and its nice during the day.Bring long sleeves..sweaters..jeans of course and a think jacket or coat.

They wear long johns gloves and puffy hats!!!!! I

Id like to move to Hawaii, but my skin is SUPER pale. Will my skin get damaged if I live there for a long time? -

Alot of my family members were born in and live in Hawaii, and I would love to live there too!But I was wondering, is it alright for me to live there if my skin is really pale?I mean, think of the PALEST white person you ve ever seen, (not someone with a skin disease)I get sunburned easily if I stay in the sun for about 4 hours and don t use much sunscreen. So should I always use sunscreen ALL THE TIME while living in Hawaii?

I am on the pale side I use sunscreen on my face neck every day, no matter what. If I think I am going to be outdoors much more than going between the car the house, then I sunscreen arms, legs, neck... whatever will be exposed. My kids are strawberry blondes like most redheads, they burn very easily. They both use sunscreen religiously. It s just part of living in the tropics.

I once met a white woman who had lived in a beach house in Hawaii for about 50 or 60 years, and I have to say, the doctors did an amazing job replacing her nose. I am really bad about not wearing sunscreen, since I work indoors during the sunniest hours. I ve been known to sunburn during a fire drill, though. I do know a Local of Native Hawaiian descent who does not leave the house without SPF 15, at least. When I know I m going to be in the sun, SPF 70 with Helioplex, Baby! But I do try to avoid the sun between 9 AM and 3 PM. Seriously.

Right there with you Hawaii home. You will get darker for sure, and idk, i dont use sunscreen. but then again, my skin got really damaged. But whatevers, I m asian, born with light skin, look filipino now. Just spending time in Hawai i will darken you, and after you get darker, the sun won t affect you as much. My advice, just come to Hawai i, you wont regret it. Pale skin, pshh, no one cares really, you ll be fine.

Between 10 AM and 3 PM, everyone should use sunscreen. Wear a hat and long sleeves when possible. There are a lot of pale people here, so you would have lots of people to get advice from. After 20+ years of not taking precautions, your skin would develop tumors and spots, most likely.

yes, you will. just like my uncle, he was really pale, and he stay in the sun for only 20 minutes, and now he has skin cancer, and he is scheduled to die very soon. we will miss him very much, but life goes on

What is the easiest way to tour the monuments and memorials in DC? -

I m trying to figure out the best way to tour them at night. I am also trying to figure out the best way to get there and back without walking forever from our hotel. We are staying at the Hamiton Crowne Plaza on 14th and K Sts. I know we can the Metro to Smithsonian Station and walk from there but I m not quite sure of the easiest way to get back to the hotel. Should we walk all the way back to the metro or take a cab?

I live in DC and actually worked across the street from that hotel. You can catch the subway at McPherson Square which is about a block or two from there and ride two stops to the Smithsonian...OR you can just walk from the hotel. My money is on the latter. If you catch the train at McPherson square you can go to Smithsonian and come out in the middle of the National Mall, but you now have an issue of doubling back. You can come out of the train and either head towards the Capitol which is a mile or so away or turn and head towards the Washington Monument. The problem with the Capitol is that there really isn t anything else that way at night b/c the museums close around 5. If you head toward the monument, then you can take pics there, walk down the hill to the WWII memorial and then keep walking toward the Lincoln Memorial. You can sit down on the stairs there and rest your feet, but you have the issue of walking all the way back to the subway unless you plan on going to see the Jefferson and FDR memorials, but they aren t really within walking distance unless you don t mind a good long walk. My proposal is that you can catch the subway to Smithsonian Station and make sure you get out at the mall exit. Then see the Wash Monument, WWII and Lincoln Memorial and then take a few minutes to rest your feet and walk back to your hotel. If you head up 17th Street from the Lincoln Memorial then you ll run right into Pennsylvania Ave and The White House where you can get some more pics and about four blocks up from there is your hotel.

The best and easiest way to tour the attractions in Washington D.C. is to take the Tourmobile. It s a narrated tour plus you get to get off the bus whenever you like. You can reboard the bus as many times as you want during the same day. It s a very convenient and enjoyable way to see Washington D.C.Here is a link for more information:http://www.tourmobile.com

Righteous Indignation got it right. The others here failed to read your first setence which clearly indicated your intentions of viewing these places at night.A few more notes that you already know. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Wear layers of clothing that can be removed as you get warm while walking and put back on as you sweat and possibly become colder.

I am from D.C.! The best time to visit D.C. is definately in the fall early winter cause tourist are one! Take the metro the cabs can screw you over and is much more expensive :) If you have more questions feel free to e-mail me. I am going to ask my mom how to get t o the Hamilton Crown Plaza in a few and then get back to you :)

You can take a tour bus. We walked to everything from the metro you get to stay as long as you like and they aren t that far from each other. I would recommend the night tour of the monuments they look awesome at night. It all matters how much time you have.

You can take the Metro from Smithsonian to McPherson square, and walk to the hotel. If you there are four of you, taking a Taxi may be only a little more expensive...

Do you know of any place in midtown NYC that lets you store luggage and change clothes midday? -

I have a job interview in NYC, and I need to find a place in midtown that both lets you store luggage and offers a place to change your clothes. This is for a job interview that I need to go to in the morning someplace else in midtown (in a suit) before going into work at my regular job (also in midtown, wearing business casual). I live out of town and can t go back home. I can t take the day off. I don t want to get a hotel room b/c I just need a place to store a bag for a few hours and then a spot to change from a suit back to regular clothes. As close as possible to 6th or Broadway north of Times Square would be great. I don t even know where to begin to look for something like this, or even if such a place exists. Thanks!

Luggage Storage in New Yorkhttp://411newyork.org/guide/2008/04/27/nOne of those should work for you. Good luck.

Macy s!Yes, that s right, the big Macy s store at 34th St. and 6th Ave. has a baggage check service AND they have big restrooms and changing rooms where you can change your clothes, too.Good luck!

Sorry, no such places exits.Good luck

What to wear in the winter in new york city? -

Im going in december and i was just wondering, for guys with the whole urban style, do they wear a graphic tee, hoodie on top, and than a coat above all of those with jeans or would i need more layers? any other suggestions

Definitely check the weather in advance. somedays it will be in the 40 s others in the teens, I would wear jeans, with maybe warm pajamas underneath them. A long sleeve shirt, with a winter coat on, with a hat, scarf, mittens, etc. I also recommend that you buy shoe pads for your feet, like dr. scholls, because you will be doing a lot of walking :) Enjoy

Nice thing about NYC, you can get away with wearing absolutely anything. You should try the preppy style with boot-cut jeans, oxford shirt with sweater on top, and a scarf. Much sexier

Wear a very heavy sweater, jacket/coat, scarf, gloves, jeans, boots (if its snowing or if there s left over snow). And if ness: hat. Good luck!

Your style is your own but do layer like crazy. Don t forget gloves, boots, heavy socks a hat (beanie).

Have you ever witnessed something you thought was real amp; then realized it was part of a film or TV production? -

I was bewildered to see Santa and his reindeer and a myriad of other Christmas decorations adorning Rodeo Drive on a day when it was 90 degrees in September and Fall had just officially begun, and I wondered if Beverly Hills was actually going to Deck the Hills for three months. Then I noticed the yellow signs for a production crew, and realized it was just background decoration for a film scene. The decorations were all taken down a couple of days later. I had a similar mystified reaction when I went to the Westside Pavilion on a scorching June day as a kid and was amazed to see it covered in elaborate Christmas decorations, and people walking around in heavy sweaters, scarves and Santa hats. We then spotted Jamie Lee Curtis, Tim Allen and a film crew and knew everything we were seeing was a part of a film production. Tonight my friend stayed late at her school to work on a photography project and panicked when she heard screaming, then freaked out even more when she went to investigate and saw people running out of the chapel covered in blood. She found out that a film is being shot on her campus, but the school hadnt informed the students because they didnt want them mulling about trying to get a glimpse of the actors. So, for those of you who live in LA or visit it frequently, have you ever experienced anything similar?: )

Hah! It s weird that you ask that question tonight. I was thinking about you telling me this story when the credits were rolling onto the screen because I was pondering about what it would be like to be an extra in movies. There was a huge boat built around where I live for the new Narnia movie. I am bewildered as to why they would pick here out of all places because it s just such an odd choice... Maybe it was affordable? When I heard they were filming here I was kind of ike O_o huh? The last I saw was the frame being built and I hadn t seen the finished product. A friend told me today that it was already filmed so I missed out on my opportunity to be an extra. :P To be honest, I haven t seen any Narnia movies because I fell asleep in them but I will go and see this next one! :D

Interestingly enough, when I see a shoot in progress, I always see the equipment first (Star Waggons, equipment trucks, etc), so I know it s a shoot. I ve never had an experience like you described. As for favorite holiday events, just about anything will do. I ve already been to Disneyland, where the holidays started and are in full swing! The Christmas Tree and Sleeping Beauty s Castle are amazing!

When I was in Las Vegas they did a film production which looked to be True Life on MTV.

Some years ago I was walking in downtown Long Beach and saw a group of people on the sidewalk across the street and wondered if a building had been evacuated. I turned the corner and went about my business thinking about where I was going when I thought to myself, that couple walking ahead of me seem different, something about the way they re dressed, and they were walking in an odd slow manner. That s when I realized that the commotion I heard from the corner I had just passed was people yelling at me that I wasn t supposed to be there. Apparently I had`walked into a movie shoot without realizing it. Embarrassing, but could have been avoided if they had let people know before they went that direction that they shouldn t. A couple of years ago I was in downtown LA near a Burger King I was planning on going into when I saw that there was smoke and ash coming from that direction. When I got to the corner and saw a fire engine I thought, oh no, no not my favorite Burger King! Yep. it was just a movie shoot. If it had been real that would really have been flame broiled!=========================The 50th annual Los Angeles County Holiday Celebrationis an admission-free, six-hour seasonal music and dance show. When I lived in Van Nuys my street was used in a Couple of Adam 12 episodes and when they were shooting I couldn t get to or out of my apartment. My High School (U. S. Grant) was used a few times when were in school. And I think it has actually been used alot as I see it in various TV and Movies - but then maybe it is just typical . Not quite as fun as your stories ... ... I have run in to various actors in and around LA when I lived there. Jaclyn Smith - she was very nice... (and the only one I ever did anything star like - we were waiting in line at Mann s and she came to premier (I think it was of one of the Star Wars) and I asked her to blow some bubbles ... she was very nice about it. ... I tried not to bug stars I met in real life ... but this was a premiere!)Wilt Chamberlin - Wow he was tall...he bought a telescope from a company I was working for at the time.Mark Hammel - no quite so nice the day I met him...everyone has a bad day.William Schallert - a very nice and SMART guy!Walter Koneig - had PO Boxes close to each other in the North Hollywood post office and would run into him at strange times. This was between TOS and the first movie. The Entire Cast of STAR TREK - TOS when flying BACK to LA from NYC!If you want to see stars...there is a Supermarket in North Hollywood (Starts with a G ) where they shop all the time ... but you have to be kewl.

there is a huge vacant parking lot near my house, its supposed to be for this korean church but they dont use it. Anyway one day i saw a police car going out of control doing donuts and then eventually crashing, I later saw the film crew on the other side of the lot, but i thought it was weird. Like six months later i saw the scene in superbad, it was awesome.

Oh! So the Christmas decorations on Rodeo Drive was for a movie? Wow, I honestly still thought it s a tradition in LA to put up decorations early, since this is my first year here. I remember talking to a friend about how funny it is to see decorations in september. I feel so stupid now. Haha especially since they had the decorations even before Halloween, which suddenly doesn t make any sense now. :) Maybe we just were really looking forward for Christmas!
