Why is washington DC not in washington state ? -

washington DC should not be in maryland, that makes no sense !

Well you have a few things wrong...1) Washington D.C. is not the capitol of Maryland, that is the city of Annapolis2) Washington D.C. was set up separate from Maryland so technically it is not in Maryland or Virginia. It was a created city that was named after General and President George Washington back in the very late 1700 s (talking about 1795-96). 3) Washington State is not a city at all, hence the word state .4) In the late 1700 s the still fledgling U.S. had not expanded westward, so the land that would become Washington the state, had not been ceded by treaties or force to the U.S. (using ceded not discovered , as the land had been discovered just not named as such.)5) Washington the state did not become a state until 1889 and it s capitol is Olympia

When Washington DC was established, there was no state of Washington. It was named Washington District of Columbia after President George Washington (Columbia being named after Christopher Columbus). The US capitol was originally New York City, but at the end of his final term, Washington moved the capitol to the border between Virginia and Maryland so that it will be as close to the center of the United States as possible without being in a single state. At that time, the United States was only made up of 13 states on the East Coast. The District of Columbia is not in a state, and it s not a state of it s own. It kind of has its own special status because it is the capitol of the US.The state of Washington didn t become a state until almost 100 years after Washington DC was established. It was also named after President George Washington, but it has nothing to do with the capital, Washington DC other than the fact it has the same name and it s in the US.

My patience is wearing thin.I will explain.Washington D.C. Is the District of Columbia. It has been designated as a Federal District. It is where all of the important Federal Buildings and monuments were to be located. It is the Federal District of our United States government. Washington D.C. is not a state. It has different police and different laws that govern its small area. The White House is fine where it is. People just need to become better map readers at some point in their life to understand the difference between Washington D.C. and the state of Washington, 3.000 miles away.Maryland is just a state which is next to Washington D.C.Washington state is NOT THE CAPITOL OF THE USA.

its not in maryland wow im 13 and even i know thisDC stands for district of Columbia and its, its very own little state thing yet its not in the united states but it is at the same time it gets very confusing but the white house is not in maryland it in the district of Columbia its its own little area so yea and washington state is not the capital of the us WASHINGTON DC THATS WHERE THE WHITE HOUSE IS LOCATED im 13 and i know this..... come on

Washington State is a state and it s on the north west corner of the country. Washington DC (District of Columbia) is the US capitol. It is technically not a part of any state. It is its own entity. Washington DC was the capitol city long before Washington State became a state which was in 1888 or so.

Washington DC is the capital city of the United States. It is bordered by the state of Maryland. Washington is a state located in the Northwest of the United States.

Um... Washington state is not the capitol, D.C. is. It used to be in Philly, though so think about that and take another toke.

Washington DC was created where it is because of a treaty between the north and south before the civil war. It was originally in NYC after the American Revolution

Take remedial US history. You need it.
