If you have an official travel order, you can rent a car without any additional fee (18+). If you don t have a travel order and you being in the military is unrelated to your reason for travelling/renting, then you can t rent a car at all (have to be 21).One example, from Budget s FAQ (which is standard for every car rental place): Government Renters Including Those in the U.S. MilitaryBudget Rent A Car is proud to deliver unsurpassed rental car service to those who serve our country. At corporate-operated locations, * For U.S. Government (military civilian) personnel WITH a government travel order or purchase order, minimum rental age is 18 years of age. No underage surcharge applies. * For U.S. Government (military civilian) personnel WITHOUT a government travel order or purchase order, minimum rental age is 21 years of age, except 18 years of age in Michigan and New York State. No underage surcharge applies. U.S. Government personnel includes military as well as civilian employees (for example, FEMA, U.S. Postal Dept., Navy, Army, etc.). The minimum age policy applies to both corporate and leisure rates. -- http://www.budget.com/budgetWeb/html/en/If you don t apply, then as someone else brilliantly suggested in a similar question... try renting a U-haul truck. You can rent the smallest vehicle they have and the minimum age is only 18.
They may let you rent a car, but will charge an outrageous underage fee (usually at least $25 a day on top of the other expenses). I would see if someone has an extra car they don t use much that you could borrow while you re there. Or take public transport--it s suppsed to be pretty good there, isn t it?
I tried to do that when i was young....it was a PAIN finding one that would rent to me being under 25 or 24 i dont remember...But...also you need a credit card....and...... What San Francisco area? If its for THE CITY... Dont waste your time...You will PAY SOOO MUCH in Parking every time you want to get out and park somehwere......and look around...so if thats the idea....Dont Do It!.. :)...Take the Trollys and The Trains....even Cabs!....unless you plan on going to one place...walking around that area all day...and then leaving... And if you have never driven in Frisco...I Promise YOU..you will end up going the wrong direction down a 1 way street atleast ONCE..lol...... Anways..It MIGHT be cheaper to get a limo Driver in some cases... Specially if your going with a bunch of people....given the prices for rentals...the prices to Park the damn thing.....anywhere in the city ..etc.... Good Luck!
Yes, as long as you re 18 w/ military ID, they might charge a little charge.Try to call the car rentals before you go and rent it.
