It I put a deposit down for a hotel, and give them my credit card number over the phone...? -

when will they take the money out of my account? Will it be within a few days after I give them my credit card number over the phone or will it be when I arrive at the hotel and give them my card personally? I ask because a hotel is holding a room for me for 6 more days. If I don t give them a deposit within that time then I will loose my room. I don t have the money for them to take it out of my account now but I will when I arrive at the hotel. I m confused. How does this stuff work?

When you book a hotel with your credit card, the hotel will not charge you until you incur an expense or charge. Most hotels will charge you a no show fee in case you don t show up or cancel your booking within 24 or 48 hours, your card would be charged under such circumstances even if you don t show up. If you show up, the hotel will charge you when you check in. Before charging the hotel would have checked if you card works.

OK, there seems to be some confusion here. Is this an actual credit card, or a debit card? If it s a debit card, a hold is put on your account for room charges, and this lasts for quite awhile. You should ask the hotel for the policy. From what you re telling me, it s a debit card that takes money directly from your account. If it s a credit card, the hotel USUALLY doesn t charge it right away. Some hotels charge a night up front when booking. Once again, ask the hotel to be sure.Ask the hotel if your debit card is charged immediately when booking, or at checkout. You can t know for sure until you find out from them. It varies from hotel to hotel.THAT is how it works, and that s why hotels don t like anyone under 21 to check in.

OK..Listen up! Your credit card just HOLDS the room for you. No charges will be on the card. Make sure you cancel the early morning arrival date or they will charge the card for one day!
