Cheaper than Phoenix? Not especially. It really depends on the area you choose, compared to the part of Phoenix you are coming from. I think the cities are quite comparable in cost-of-living expenses.By no tax the previous poster means no SALES tax. You pay up the butt in income tax in Oregon because of that. Property tax is more as well. So don t let the sales tax issue fool you. They tax you harder in other ways.
Portland is West Coast cheap; not American cheap. For the west coast, Portland is probably the cheapest big city outside Sacramento, CA. You can find a lot of afforable nice neighborhoods, especially in the SE urban areas and the SW/NW suburbs (Lake Oswego, Hillsboro, Oregon City, etc.) but there are still many expensive areas that may be shocking to Eastern Americans. I hear Phoenix is really cheap for housing, so I m sure you ll notice a bit of an increase in price, not like you d be living in San Diego or on Miami Beach or in the Upper West Side, though.
You just asked a question stating you were moving from sand diego to phoenix. You seem to move around a lot.
Portland is way cheaper, plus there is no tax
