Is it legal to own a monkey in new york? -

if so, any more details on owning one

Do NOT own a monkey regardless of its legality... I hate how people want a monkey because they are so cute and funny ... the reality is they are wild animals (not like dogs and cats which are domesticated)... they get ripped away from a life in the wild (where they are happy and belong) and often times ripped away from their mothers as babies... many many many monkeys end up with nervous and mental disorders because of this... some people will have a monkey for 15 years and it s their baby and it attacks them and just snaps... it s so sad... please don t contribute to a sick practice like that...

No, it is NOT legal to own a monkey. Check out the following like that specifies that monkeys cannot be sold or kept as pets in NYC:http://www.nyc.gov/apps/311/allServices.

New York has laws against owning any wild animal, and I can guarantee it will be considered a wild animal if it goes haywire and harms someone. Additionally, you are exposed to any number of serious transmissible diseases from monkeys, some of which kill. The ASPCA can probably tell you whether there are specific statues banning monkeys, but regardless, you will be responsible for any havoc your monkey causes. Try a more trainable pet.

Well, sure, it s legal to own a monkey in New York City, it s just not legal to keep it here. So, in other words, if you owned a monkey that lived somewhere else, that would be fine, but if you want to keep a monkey in a New York City apartment, no, sorry, that s illegal, and you WILL get caught, too!Good luck!

Why dont you own a dog instead and if you cannot find a good Dog, tame me!
