If he plans to send his child to preschool the usual age is 5 years old. To attend regular elementary public or private school it is customary to send them at age 6. In the U.S it is customary for the school district to assign the child to a school. For young children it is normally the one closest to where they live. He will need a copy of the child s birth certificate, and also need proof that the child has been vaccinated against certain childhood diseases. Have him ask a neighbor which school district he lives in, and when the time comes call their office for the specific requirements.

Preschool can be attended by 3 and 4 year olds. Kindergarten in public school starts at 5 years old. I have six little kids in my family and know this is true. PPup is right about the birth certificate and vaccinations.Papa can poke his nose into the office of any elementary school in the area and talk with a secretary who will tell him the proper school to go to.Since this guy has a 2 year old child he had better step up to the plate and start being pro-active in his child s development. In other words, ask his own questions and not rely on friends to do it for him
