Of course it s faster! How could it not be? The monorail s tagline is: Traffic is beneath you. There is no traffic to deal with on a monorail. You get from Sahara to MGM Grand in about 7 minutes (including stops and boarding). Taxis get stuck at red lights, crosswalks, traffic jams, DUI checkpoints, etc. The monorail is for everyone, no matter how you re dressed. Mostly tourist use it, but, even I have used it to get to MGM just because I couldn t risk being late. Their is no driver on the monorail and no other vehicles to get in accidents with. The LV monorail is the most efficient transportation system in Las Vegas, because you simply can not get stuck in traffic!Contrary to the person above that stated the monorail price is 4 times higher than a taxi . A taxi cost $3.30 just to get you 1/12 of a mile then it s $2.40 for each mile thereafter. They also charge you $.50 cents per minute as they re stuck in traffic. And the cabby expects a tip! Back roads aren t reliable as they re often jammed with other idiot cab drivers that don t want to sit in cabstands. The monorail is the most reliable and fastest transportation in the city! The cost is $5.00 per ride (you can t get even 1 mile in a taxi for that price).
The Monorail is much faster, but also more expensive. You can buy daily passes, multiple-ride passes, etc. You won t look silly dressed up on the monorail - there will be lots of people dressed up, lots of people dressed down, and lots of people in the middle.I would walk to Venetian - it s really not very far from Bally s at all. But I would take the monorail to MGM.
I would just try and walk to the Venetian. There is almost no advantage to getting on the monorail, and it is probably not more than 1000 yards. The monorail was originally built as a connector between Bally s and MGM Grand. The walking distance is more like one mile if you count the distance walking through the casinos. It can be a long walk for a woman in heels.
The monorail is definitely faster but you can take the taxi and ask the driver to take the back streets instead of the Vegas strip. I personally will take the Deuce (bus) from the Bally s to MGM Grand. No one cares if you are dressed up or not. This is Vegas Baby.http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/get-aroun
Monorail is a lot faster and much more convenient, traffic is usually all day and very congested 12-5, Taxis get stuck in traffic a lot and its ok if your dressed to go clubbing on the monorail, lots of people do that.
Take it and you will get there just as fast. You do not want to wait on the cab line. So try it and see...Only way to enjoy life is to experiment.
The distance from Bally s to MGM and Venetian is so short I d just walk. Check out this map http://www.lasvegasmaps.com/stripmap.htm - the green line is the monorail. Notice how it s way at the back of the properties. If you re on Las Vegas Blvd. in front of Ballys, it would take just as long to walk to the Ballys monorail station as it would take to walk to the Venetian or the north end of the MGM.Monorail tickets are $5 per person per ride or $13 per person for an all day pass http://www.lvmonorail.com/buy_tickets/ti Taxis cost $3.30 for the first twelfth of a mile plus $2.40 per mile http://taxi.state.nv.us/FaresFees.htm
oh god yeah. The monorail is super fast and as traffic frequently doesn t move, even taxis are sitting still in it. However the monorail is also about 4 times the price of a taxi as well. No you will not look weird being all dressed up in the evening. Most people walk the streets during the day but when they are dressed up is when they will take the monorail. Of course frequently you will be the only people in your section of the monorail as well. The taxi lines in Vegas are never long. I don t think I ve ever been more than the 2nd person back--though I will admit I ve never left a hot club right at closing either. One way around it is to get a taxis business card. You can call him direct and have him pick you up. He will pull up on a side street but he doesn t have to wait in the line b/c you called him direct. Win win for everyone. That s what my friends do every time they are in Vegas. Tip really well the first couple trips and the driver is pretty much yours.
