Is san fransisco a bad area. does it have any bad areas? -

I like the Tenderloin. :( It has some of the weirdest little shops and best hidden gem restaurants in the city. It s, um, colorful , but I wouldn t call it a bad area. Per my usual rant, it also contains a good portion of the Academy of Arts, so lots of students, and one of the highest ratios of children in the city... not things you d associate with a bad neighborhood. Also has lots of bars so, while possibly loud/annoying, is pretty heavy traffic (and very mixed, at that). Typically, the people who hate it haven t really explored it... just been scared off my some ranting junkie (who likely wasn t even ranting at them) and decided it s bad . The Lower Haight is actually fine, too. Not as interesting, but again... 20-something middle-class hipsters don t typically equate to bad neighborhood (if anything, it s been overly gentrified in recent years). Bad areas would include Bayview/Hunter s Point and the surrounding areas, as well as the Mission district past around 25 St (notorious for gang activity). Those are really the only areas I d recommend staying away from if you really have an aversion to bad neighborhoods. So basically, just for good measure, avoid the SE end of the city and you ve got it all covered. Also, parts of the Western Addition/projects, especially around Eddy and Laguna, can get iffy. But for the most part the area s quiet, so whatever.

San Francisco is a beautiful and lively city, if you know where to go exactly. the usual tourist spot is fisherman s wharf, a lot of things to do family wise. Mission is awesome for shopping addicts and hippie loves will fall in love with Haight st (good vintage shopping there). Castro is sweet if you ve got a gay friend or two to tag along with. Ghiardelli Square is beautiful during Christmas and the hot chocolate they serve there is awesome. Chinatown is so much fun and really displays china s culture well. Cow Hollow has good shopping, kind of pricey but good, spas and delicious restaurants. South Beach is nice, the Giants stadium is in this district so that s always fun. Treasure Island is pretty, beautiful view of the golden gate bridge connecting to the city. Market Street- busy, busy busy but i love it! districs to stay away from:BayviewLower Haight, at times. (i was definitely perved on a couple times here )SunnydaleTenderloynoverall, San Francisco is awesome. lots and lots of bums and creeps but you ll adapt. :)

Sf is actually a pretty safe place, but there are, of course, neighborhoods that you shouldn t walk around at night by yourself. I mean, that s a given for any city.I agree with On the Radio, the tenderloin has actually cleaned itself up a bit. It s not the safest place, but it s a safe haven compared to what it used to be.Haha funny story actually. We were driving my grandma around a couple weeks ago, she hasn t been to the city in many years, and we were driving through the tenderloin and she said is this the tenderloin? *gasp* it looks so nice! It s hard to read stuff about the Mission being a bad neighborhood since that s pretty much the neighborhood I m from. I live in the Excelsior, which has rising crime rates and current protests against those crime rates, but the only thing I don t do in the Mission is sleep. Therefore, I consider that neighborhood my actual home. It s got a really bad gang problem, and high crime rates as well, but it s very family oriented and people seem to forget that. Right now it is being gentrified, and if you think that s a good thing then open your eyes. The mission is filled with low paid, hard working mothers, trying hard to raise their families, and are being kicked out of their own neighborhood because of this gentrification, so gentrification is not a good thing.

All cities have good and bad area. The tenderlion and some part of mission are bad.

san fran is great! just stay out of the tenderloin.
