Where are the Best places to go in New York for New Years Eve? -

I am heading to New York for new year and I just wanted to know where the best places to go are! I also heard that you have to get to Times Sq before 1 in the afternoon to see the ball drop!! Is this true? We are into indie rock, cheesy sing along anything that yiu can dance too and just enjoy yourself but still look good!Thank you very much!!
