Vacation for a family of 3 for a week in florida under $800 in March 2010? -

Me, my wife and 3 year old daughter would like to vacation in florida for a week. We would prefer to relax rather than going to Disney all. Any suggestions for places. Preferably close to beach!

A resort for only $800 a week? Near a beach? And then you want to have the $800 to include food and beverages. The time you want it for is Spring Break. The entire month of March is considered season prices. You might find this type of price in the off-season in a very run down Motel . You will defiantly need to try the State Parks. Best of luck

Are you driving distance or would you be flying? If flying it s pretty unlikely that you would be able to do it for $800. Plane tickets even from NY or Boston are over $200 each and if you re coming from the west even more. If you got a hotel in the middle of nowhere you could do it but anything remotely near the beach is going to be $100 a night. Not trying to burst your bubble or be rude, just stating the facts. My mom is a travel agent and she s been looking for this same trip for someone and they can t find it under $1200.

There are many privately owned motels that are very cheap in the Clearwater Beach/ St. Petersburg area. However, they charge $10 a night for an extra person (including children) beyond 2 adults.Plus, some are not the cleanest. I wouldn t take my 2 year old. They have cockroaches. It s the tropics after all.June is more affordable. I went to St. Pete (Beach) in June with my 6 month old. We stayed at the Alden. It s not privately owned, but it s only around $119 a night with no extra person charge. They are a very nice family oriented hotel located on the beach. We ve also stayed at the Gulf Towers in Indian Rocks Beach, which is a little South from Clearwater Beach. It was $600 for 7 days. That s when we just had our son who was 7 or 8 at the time. The room was clean, but the hallways were dirty and needed painting, maybe carpet cleaning. They only had one washer and one dryer. I ve found that a lot of those privately owned places only have one washer and one dryer. But, it was on the beach. You may find a good deal by looking on this site. I don t think that many travel agents know about these privately owned places.http://www.floridasbeach.com/

Camping at one of the many state parks come to mind. I suggest Fort DeSoto Park, Tierra Verde, FL . Check out the State of Florida Tourism Dept.
