The Smithosonian does have many ancient Egyptian artifacts on permanent exhibit at the Museum of Natural History in the Western Cultures Hall. They are comingled with artifacts from ancient Rome and Greece rather than a separate exhibit. You can also find an exhibit of ancient Egyptian art at the Freer. Don t expect to find anything as enormous as you see at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC :)
Are you referring to the Tut exhibition that s been traveling around the country? If so, it is not (at least at present) in Washington. The Smithsonian doesn t have any extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities. They focus on American history and culture. The National Gallery of Art may have a few such items (although I can t immediately think of any). The closest museums I can think of that are strong in Egyptian antiquities are in Philadelphia and New York.UPDATEI m glad that Pepper was able to think of some specific exhibits. I stand with my original statement, though, that Egyptian antiquities are not a strength of the Smithsonian.
