How early should we be on the street to get up front seats to the Macys parade? -

Hello, my family and I are traveling from PA to go see the Macy s parade, and was wondering what time we should go out in the morning to get up front seats along the parade route. We are staying at the Edison hotel, so we are just a very short walk from 7th avenue. What I have been finding is to get upfront seats, you should start arriving around 5am. Is this true? Also if anyone has any other tips they would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know if the Christmas tree at Rockefeller center will be lite after the parade? Thanks!

The Rockefeller Tree has its own lighting ceremony and it s not until December 2.For the parade people start lining up extremely early. In the Herald Square area, we ve heard people line up the night before. They line up later further north.

The tree is illuminated 12/2/2009 at 8:55 PM EST.If you are not here then, you can see it on TV for 5 minutes.http://411newyork.org/guide/2007/06/13/tIn regards the the parade, it starts around 9:00 AM EST so dress as warm as you can and get to your spot as early as you can as those coming from a far will be there early and will take up the good spaces. http://411newyork.org/guide/2007/05/06/m
