Winter in LA/Anaheim..what is it like? -

I recently booked a vacation package for the Christmas week in Anaheim. What is the weather like in LA during this winter season? What should we pack to wear? ( We live in Toronto, so we just received our first snowfall now so we can tolerate SOME cold to a degree.) Are the beaches nice during this time? What else would you recommend?

Not too sure what planet that other person is living on, but Los Angeles does get quite chilly at times during winter. The beach will be too cold to enjoy for long.

Our cold and your cold are not the same thing (I ve worked at CTV in Toronto in Jan). But the difference is that our cold usually doesn t last. This week is very chilly for us mid-50sF and rain. But these spells usually don t last long. Daytime temps = It s not uncommon for it to be mid/upper 70sF for Christmas. A few years back it was in the high 90sF. Night time temps = are usually in the 50sF around this time of year. The beaches will be nice to walk around but it most likely will not be sunbathing weather. You asked in your other question about vegetarian restaurants. At the end of many of the locals piers is a restaurant called Ruby s. It is really a hamburger shake joint but they have garden burgers. A few months back, I eat at the one on the Huntington Beach Pier; we saw dolphins, porpoises, and some pelicans - not a normal day at a So Cal beach. You should also look into the Whale Watching tours. I think it might be Blue Whale migration period.

Cold? LOL. We have completely different definitions of cold. One of the games I love to play at Disneyland (I m an annual passholder, and go about 50 times per year) is called Spot the Canadian . It s really quite fun this time of year. High temps this week are in the 60 s. Locals are all bundled up with heavy jackets, hoods, etc. The Canadians are strolling down Main Street in cutoffs or shorts that haven t seen the light of day since the 1970 s. It s really quite funny. Conan O Brien said it best the other night: Temperatures in Los Angeles got to 40 degrees... the death toll has not been released yet. (People from LA won t really get it, but other areas will). That cracked me up.Keep an eye on weather.com. This week temps are in the 50 s and 60 s, but it s not unusual to have temps in the 70 s or 80 s if the Santa Ana winds blow. It rained yesterday, so the local mountains have some snow: Beautiful to look at. It s hard to tell this far in advance, so just keep an eye on the Internet for weather. We might have rain, but traditionally it s just cool and sunny. Bring clothing for cool weather, and a pair of shorts.Unfortunately, since we get our ocean currents from Alaska, the beaches aren t that nice this time of year. They re nice in that they are not crowded, perfect for biking or skateboarding, but not really for sunbathing or swimming.Email me or IM me if you need more info as the time approaches. I ran out of room on my other answer.
