About how much would it cost to rent a car to drive from Detroit to Las Vegas (6,000 miles)? -

Can someone give me even a rough estimate price any car cheapest possible reliable car with air conditioning be putting about 6,000 miles on the car driving... would it be cheaper to just get a plane ticket and take a cab from where I want to go in Las Vegas ? (4,000 miles or so there and back and another 2,000 going somewhere else while there)

Round trip airfare can be less than 300, at the moment. I think your best bet would be to fly, then rent a car in Las Vegas to do the local traveling.Compact car rental rates for a month, with a pick up and drop off in Detroit, vary from $480 to $930. Intermediate size car rates for a month $550 to $1900. Larger cars are even more costly. Those charges do NOT include taxes and fees, which probably add at least another 100. Those rates also may not be for unlimited mileage. Plus gas, and lodging and food for several days on the road in each direction. Even with the cheapest care rental, I think the total trip cost could easily be in the area of 2000.Car rental companies have changed their practices a lot in the past 10 years or so, and sometimes, the cars are only allowed to be operated in the state in which they were rented, and the surrounding states - in other words, it would be a rental agreement violation to drive beyond Indiana. You would have to check out the rental terms very carefully to decide if they would work for you.

most car rental companies include free mileage so that is not the issue - it will be gas, and the time it will take to get you there. (I frequently rent a car to go several thousand miles rather than drive my own)Better option rent the car in Vegas. Their transport service in Vegas is pretty good anyway - Here is a link to the options:http://off2vegas.com/transit.html

Get a ticket. Renting a car for just a couple days would be as much as a ticket there. And then theres the mileage issue. Most renting companies give u a certain limit. and i know that 1000 is above that limit. so a ticket is the best way to go. U shouldnt waste ur time searching for a car. Just a waste of time.

it would be cheaper to fly because most companies will charge about .75 or more a mile after 2000
