(The N is faster because it runs express in Manhattan).The N and W stop at Union Square.Or,You can take the 7 to Grand Central and transfer to a downtown bound 4/5/6 train (the 4/5 are faster because they run express).

It entirely depends on where in Queens to where in Manhattan. To drive from one end of the 59th St bridge to the other takes about two minutes if there s no traffic. But driving or the subway from Flushing or Jamaica to the north end of Manhattan could take an hour.
