Can you help explain why route I want to drive(which is shorter) takes longer then other routes to get where-? -

I m going? I want to drive from Texarkana, TX to Atlanta, GA. Tried both Map Quest and Google Maps to find shortest route there. Both showed one way that s 667 miles long and takes 10 hours and 57 minutes to get to Atlanta. I looked at maps and saw other route that s 43 miles shorter but both sites said it will take 2 hours and 45 minutes longer going this way.How can a route that s 43 miles shorter take 2 hours and 45 minutes longer to where I m going? Google and Map Quest s way takes me through Shreveport, Louisiana, Jackson,Mississippi, Birmingham,Alabama and finally Atlanta. My way goes through Crosset,AR, Columbus,Miss., then Birmingham and Atlanta. If you look mine is shorter so how could it take longer to get to Atlanta this way?

The shorter route may have lower speed limits, more red lights, or just more traffic.
