I am thinking about moving to New York area. Is Shirley, NY (Long Island) considered a good place to live? -

Shirley, Long Island is a pretty good hike from the city, if that matters.About an hour on the Long Island Expressway (Distress-way as its called locally).It s in Suffolk County (one of 2 counties on Long Island). Shirley is on the south shore.In general the further North the more desireable (Hamptons being an exception)It s not a community most middle class people looking to move to Suffolk aspire to.It is however a working class community in a mostly suburban/rural setting.It could charitably be described as affordable .

I ve lived in New York since I was five.Long Island is a very nice area, I love it. :)Not as busy as the city is. Kind of quiet.

Shirley is a dump.
