We live near Chicago and want to take a mini vacation? Where is a good place to go for a day or 2? -

We want to go from Sunday til Tuesday and dont want to spend a lot of money. We have 5 and 8 yr old girls. We just moved out here and dont know where a good place to go? Any good suggestions? It doesnt have to be in IL

I would suggest Key Lime Cove up in Gurnee. It would be a nice winter break and your girls would seem to be the ideal age. You can probably slip in a bit of shopping at Gurnee Mills as well, if that might interest you, as it right on the opposite side of the highway. Here s a link to their web page:http://www.keylimecove.com/

How about Starved Rock State Park in Utica, IL. It is a beautiful place year round. It has a beautiful lodge and restaurant. Wisconsin Dells or Door County (also in WI) are pretty popular with the Illinoisians, just by watching the license plates!
