Sandy Springs / Dunwoody is a nice as is the Smyrna / Vinings area. I am not a big fan of living in Buckhead and Midtown because to be honest they can be hit or miss with the crowd at night time because of the clubs and there are some pockets that are less desirable mixed in there. Most things that are in north Atlanta (285 between 75n and 85n) are pretty safe and have an easy commute to the city. The 85n side of north Atlanta is also close to Marta rail transit which is safe on the north side of the city, but I would not recommend taking it to or below the 5 points station or travel on the east/west line at any time other than peak business hours.
Atlanta is a huge place - the Metro Area covers about 1500 sq ml. It depends where you have to get to. Get out of the Metro area and pretty much anywhere is okay to live. I don t suggest living any closer. I used to live some miles NE of Atlanta and I know most of the places heading down the I85/I95 corridors and they re great places to live - but assholes if you need to commute to SW Atlanta.Hip Trendy places like Buckhead (used to be before they knocked all the bars down...) and $1400/month won t buy you squat. You ve to decide, IMHO, which region in which you want to work and work outwards from the 85,285,75 or whichever Interstate route is nearest and look for something along that route.I personally love Athens, GA, and some of its suburbs are fantastic -but, again, it s no good if you ll get snarled-up twice a day on the I85/I75/I285 junction.

Little Five Points or North Druid Hills would probably be the best area to live. It s not the safest area to live in, but through all of my experiences in Atlanta it s been safer than almost any other part of the inner city.
Live near Riverdale in Clayton County and not there live near Fayetteville in Fayette County
An acting career in Atlanta? Virtually all of the theaters are in downtown or midtown, neither are safe places to live.
I used to live in Sandy Springs ,,, that was nice area but it has been a while!!
