Is Manhattan the core city of New York City? -

How would you define these places, Northern Queens, Staten Island, East Side Manhattan?

Manhattan is the central part of New York City, but it is considered part of the city rather than being a separate core city .No one really talks about Northern Queens - they refer to neighborhoods in Queens like Astoria, Jackson Heights, or Flushing.Staten Island is basically a suburb that is inside the city limits for some reason.People also don t talk about East Side Manhattan - there is the Upper East Side, an expensive residential area, and the Lower East Side, formerly a poor immigrant area but now much of it is gentrified and there are a lot of good bars and restaurants there.

Manhattan is not the core city because it s not a city - it s a part of a city - New York City! Manhattan is a borough, just like Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx. Yes, it is the core in that it is the center that people gravitate to. Most of the business and a lot of the nightlife is there. But there are other perfectly nice parts of NYC.As for the other places you mentioned, I don t think of Northern Queens but rather I think of Queens by neighborhood. As far as Queens is concerned, I personally prefer Astoria, Long Island City, Flushing, or Elmhurst to other parts of Queens. I think most of Staten Island is too suburban for my taste. As for the East Side, I m assuming you mean the Upper East Side (there are many neighborhoods on the East Side of Manhattan, as Manhattan is very long!) The Upper East Side is pretty dowdy these days - mostly older people live there. There are some very rich people on Park Avenue or 5th Avenue, but there are more ordinary parts of the UES as well. Many of the residents are elderly these days. You didn t mention Brooklyn, BTW. There are some terrific neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Many parts of Brooklyn have become very desirable parts of town to live in.

Nobody considers Manhattan a separate city. The word you are looking for (or should have used) is boroughs. In that sense, yes, Manhattan is the central borough (if you base your assessment of transportation and the number of people who commute into and out of the borough each day).

Manhattan is the core of the city. It is the cultural, entertainment and financial center of the rest of the city.Good luck

They are all part of NYC boroughs, Manhattan is somewhat the Core of NYC.

They are boroughs of NYC; I think that s what you re getting at.
