If you must drive, always use Interstate 280 instead of U.S. 101 or - even worse - Interstate 880.But I wouldn t bother with it at all.San Francisco has an excellent bus, subway, and tram system. And Caltrain provides commuter rail service between San Jose and San Francisco. The trains are actually very comfortable. There are bike racks, restrooms, tables, and electrical sockets on the train. Caltrain also has an open container policy that allows you to bring drinks aboard. During the morning and evening commute, express trains do the run in 57 minutes. Regular trains will take around 1 hour 30 minutes.Grab some fast food, get a newspaper, sit down, relax, and enjoy the ride. http://www.caltrain.com/
If you can get to Cal Train that is a lot easier depending where you live and where the job is. But most people have to drive and take 101. Again that depends on where you live, assuming your job will be downtown S.F. If you get a job in the Sunset or Richmond, or western part of town, you can take 280 all the way in. There are express Cal Trains in the rush hour also. 101 Northbound traffic from San Jose to S.F. is pretty bad, and the reverse in the P.M. is bad too.But thats how it goes.
Yes, take the job. Traditional commute will hang you up on 101. 280 is less crowded past Los Altos / Palo Alto to about Daly city, but congestion is dominant everywhere else. With some logistical smarts and planning ahead, getting around the crunch wont be and issue.Check out http://www.511.org
Regardless of which mode of transportation you choose, the commute from San Jose to San Francisco is bound to suck. That said, it s a tough job market and for now having a lousy commute is much preferable to not having a job.
I would take the job, what ever income you can get is good, its better than nothing!
Of Course!Good Luck there, have a gooooood life ;)
Take the job, but do not drive. Take the train.
