Trip to NY but...Can I stay in Philly and ride the train to NY to avoid insane hotel prices? -

Don t want to stay in a hostel or pay over $100 bucks a night. Thats why im asking.

Stay in Philly and take the train. The trip from Philly to NYC on Amtrak take about an hour each way and the one way fare ranges from $64 on the Regional to $208 on the Acela Express. If you take one of the Keystone Service from 30th Street - Philly to Penn Station in New York, the one way fare will cost you about $45.Alternatively, you can take the commuter train from Philly to New York via Trenton. From Philly, take SEPTA Regional Rail R7 from 30th Street - Philly to Trenton where a connection can be made to NJ Transit s Northeast Corridor Line to NYC. The trip take about an hour and a half to two hours each way, but its cheaper. The total one way fare is about $20 ($40 round trip).I hope this information is very helpful.Good luckNative New Yorker

But if you stay in Philadelphia, what you save on hotels is what you ll spend in transportation getting to and from New York. Then, there s the time it ll take to go back and forth. It s a long trip, and it ll quickly become expensive.Look for hotels in the other boroughs, especially some parts of Queens. Some places in New Jersey might be useful, especially if they have easy access to a bus to the Port Authority Bus Terminal or a train to New York Penn Station.

why don t you stay in new jersey instead? that way you could just go over to staten island and ride the ferry over to manhattan for free. plus, the ferry ride only takes about 30 minutes, which would save you a lot more time. not only would you be spending extra money on the train, but you would also be throwing away precious hours of time...time that you could be spending in manhattan.

Its not worth it. If you want to avoid high hotel prices than stay in another NY borrow, New Jersey, or CT. Also try the online hotel booking websites. I was in Manhattan last month and stayed in a room normally priced 800 dollars for 200 dollars. Price line, travelocity, kayak.com are all good places to start looking to get better hotel prices.

you could stay in Philly but your commute by train is gonna take you a few hours man Philly is about and hour and a half two hours driving from NYC no traffic. Im gonna say no its not worth it.
