Sheridan is really out in the middle of no where and with no real, viable public transportation options. The Amtrak suggestion to Plano gets you that far, but Plano and the surrounding towns are so small, there is no real cab service like in the city. You might consider Metra to Aurora, then taking a cab from Aurora, which would definitely be easier as more trains to Aurora plus the availability of more cabs. However that still leaves you with the issue of returning from Sheridan. Your best solution, if at all possible, would be to have a friend drive you there. Maybe offer them gas money and tell them it ll be a lovely drive out in the country.
Can you write to your husband and ask if any fellow prisoner s families live near you. You can only visit on Saturdays and Sundays, and he has to have been there at least 30 days before you can see him. Since this is the best prison in Illinois for preventing return incarceration, good luck to both of you. There is a phone number on the website.
AMTRAK will take you to Plano, IL. From there to Sheridan is about an 18 mile ride in a taxi:http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m lat=41.5731AMTRAK goes to Plano once every day. The train leaves Union Station at 5:55 pm. so you ll probably have to stay overnight as visiting hours won t be convinient to that schedule:http://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrakThere is no Greyhound service to anywhere near Sheridan.
This is a really tough question. I looked and looked online, but can not find an answer. The prison is about 70 miles outside of Chicago. There doesn t appear to be any bus service that far out.I looked at the prison web page and they don t have any hints about transportation.Their phone number is on their page, maybe you could call and ask for advice:http://www.idoc.state.il.us/subsections/Sorry I can t figure it out. Good luck to you and your family. :-)
