I suppose it might depend on what part of the City you are talking about, but most bars make a lot of money on New Years Eve. I think most of them will be open!
Some do, mainly in time square. But I don t think it would be too hard, But based on personal experience, do not drink, because we got our spot in time square 12 hours in advance. And if you left to go to the bathroom, you lost your spot. And the crowd will not move for you. I would wait to drink after midnight.
