Will airport customs check contents of external hard drive? -

This was asked previously (2 years ago) but I want to check with those who has experienced this. Because I m going to the US and I know they re very strict about piracy. I have some downloaded music files and videos. Some people say they may ask you to boot up your computer to check for porn (and unlicensed software?) but are they still very strict about external hard drives? Thanks in advance.

it s up to they.they have the liberty of checking every computer if they wanted (also external disks) it has happened before and it will continue, but you don t know who are they going to choose if they do it!but don t worry about it, i have travel many times and it hasn t happened to me!good luck!

US customs is not that strict about laptops and such, unless they have reason to believe you may have unlawful contents on your laptop or hard drive. They simply have you take your laptop out from where you were carrying it to screen through security so it doesn t set off anything and they can visibilly see it. They don t have the time to have everyone boot up their laptops to go through every file one by one.

definatley not. i bring in multiple hdd and laptops at one time, and they didnt check any thing.if you self-consious about the harddrive then they ll ask ask you but just leave it in your laptop case, and no-one will care :)ps happy downloading :)and dont download too much porn :p

I have taken a laptop to the states from the UK, and they didn t ask me to turn it on to check anything. Don t think their worried about someone having a few pirated movies. More paranoid about weapons and the such.

Do you know how many laptops and hard drives go through LAX every hour ????? I ve never heard of such a thing....It doesn t make sense...

I have never had a problem like that.Plus, it s not their business as to what you have on your hard drive.
