I think that Haleiwa is definitely worth the bus trip up. It s my favorite place on Oahu. Shopping is mostly surf shops and a few tourist shops if you want something like that (Dive and Surf is the best surf shop there). As for restaurants, there are a couple really cute place. Ted s bakery is fabulous, they have typical Hawaiian plate lunches but their pies are the best. Also, if you go you have to get shave ice. Matsumoto s is the most famous but Aoki s is right next door and it s just as good and usually has a shorter line. There is also a great thai restaurant in the downtown area, but I don t remember the name- sorry!Aside from the shops and restaurants, you ll be going to one of the most famous surf places in the world. It s so much fun to hang out on the beach and watch the surfers.
One of the best part of taking a bus to Haleiwa is the many beautiful sights you can see along the journey. If you are taking the round the island bus from Ala Moana Shopping Center, it is about 3-4 hours ride for the round. But you will be able to see things as you are not driving! You can also hop on off the bus with one free transfer. Haleiwa is not as modern as the Waikiki area but when surf are up, you will see a lots of people there. Other than that, the shave ice stores are famous and enjoy!
heck yeah! you should do the shark cage thing they have there, not too expensive and way worth your time. also hit up the north shore a little to the east for some killer wave action. the website below has all the info you need.
I would say yes, worth it, try Cholos Mexican restaurant there. Also have a shave ice at Masumotos store.
Lots of surfing on the north shore. Fun to watch
